Distrion es un joven DJ y productor bilbaíno con proyección internacional que lleva cuatro años ligado al popular sello discográfico No Copyright Sounds (NCS) y actualmente se está abriendo hueco en otras marcas de renombre mundial como Revealed Recordings o Spinnin’ Records. Con el inestimable respaldo de Hardwell, dos veces número uno de la DJ Mag, Ander está presentando un sonido muy marcado con el que está construyendo una potente identidad a ritmo de future bounce tras juguetear con el progressive house.
Entrevista a Distrion / Interview with Distrion:
Wololo Sound: ¡Hola, Ander! Es un placer para nosotros poder entrevistarte después del éxito de estos últimos meses. Vamos a comenzar con lo más reciente: tu tercer lanzamiento en Revealed Recordings, el sello de Hardwell. ¿Cómo fue vuestro primer contacto?
Distrion: ¡Hola! Muchas gracias por la entrevista, es un placer. El primer contacto que tuve con ellos fue gracias a la colaboración con Jack & James en ‘Feel Alive’. Les encantó el tema y desde entonces he ido encontrando una buena familia en Revealed.
Wololo Sound: Hi, Ander! It’s a pleasure for us to interview you for everything you have achieved in the last months. Let’s get started with the most recent works: you have just released your third track on Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings. How was your first contact with Robbert and his team?
Distrion: Hi! Thanks for the interview, my pleasure. The first contact that I had with them was for my collaboration ‘Feel Alive’ with Jack & James. They loved the track and since then I have found a great family in Revealed.
WS: Estamos viendo una línea musical muy marcada con el future bounce por bandera y pareces encontrarte muy a gusto con este estilo. ¿En qué momento y por qué decidiste apostar por él?
D: Supongo que fue todo algo muy natural. La evolución de mi sonido fue poco a poco llevándome ahí, empezando con algo mas progressive y poco a poco llegando a algo mas future.
WS: Lately, we can find a solid musical direction in your career, focused in future bounce, and you look really comfortable with this genre. In which moment did you decide to bet on it?
D: I guess that it was a natural process. The evolution of my sound drove me there little by little, as I started with some progressive vibes and I ended reaching that future sound.
WS: Y a principios de febrero también volviste a lanzar una nueva referencia en NCS. Tu trayectoria como productor empezó con ellos, ¿cómo lograste entrar en un sello tan popular teniendo poco nombre?
D: Debo muchísimo a NCS; su apoyo ha sido increíble desde siempre. Llegué a ellos mediante mi compañero Blair (Electro-Light), que al ya haber sacado él un par de temas ahí nos facilito la entrada con una colaboración.
WS: In the beginning of February you came back to NCS with a new track. Your journey as a producer started with them, but how did you manage to sign in such a popular label being a small artist.
D: I owe a lot to NCS – their support has always been huge. I got in contact with them by my mate Blair (Electro-Light), who had already released a couple of songs there, so it was easier to sign our collab with them.
WS: Si comparamos ‘One, Two’ con tus primeros temas de NCS de hace cuatro años, ¿qué valoración haces de la evolución qué ha experimentado tu sonido y también tú como artista? ¿Consideras que el sello ha sido clave para tu crecimiento?
D: ‘One, Two’ ha sido una apuesta un poco arriesgada. Es un sonido mas oscuro y agresivo de lo que venía haciendo hasta ahora, pero ha sido un tema que he disfrutado mucho produciendo con el talentosísimo Rudelies y que de momento está teniendo un recibimiento muy bueno. Considero que puede ser un paso en la dirección de la evolución de Distrion.
WS: If we compare ‘One, Two’ with your first NCS tracks from four years ago, how do you think that your sound and you as an artist have evolved? Do you consider that the label has been helpful for your growth?
D: ‘One, Two’ has been quite a risky bet. I have worked on a darker and more agressive sound than what I was used to do, together with the supertalented Rudelies, and the response has been great so far. I consider that it can be one more step forward on Distrion’s evolution.
WS: Algo más lejos se nos queda aquel ‘Monsta’ que publicaste en Dharma Worldwide, una de las filiales de Spinnin’ Records liderada por KSHMR. ¿Qué se siente al tener en tus manos el contrato del sello que muchos productores tienen como objetivo? ¿Estaba entre tus metas?
D: La verdad es que fue uno de los momentos de máximo disfrute de toda mi carrera musical. ¿Qué artista que empieza en el EDM no sueña con llegar a sacar un tema por Spinnin’ algún día? Aunque es cierto que nunca me lo propuse como meta per se, porque siempre me he dejado llevar un poco, pero sí que me hizo sentirme muy realizado y muy contento con todo lo conseguido hasta el momento.
WS: If we look back in time, we can find ‘Monsta’ released on KSHMR’s Dharma Worldwide, an affiliate of Spinnin’ Records. What did your feel when you had in your hands the contract of a dream-label for every EDM producer? Did you have it as a goal in your career?
D: I have to admit that it was one of the moments that I have enjoyed the most in my musical career. Which EDM producer wouldn’t love to release a track on Spinnin’ some day? Well, actually, it wasn’t a goal for me because I have always let myself go, but I felt really happy and fulfilled with everything that I had achieved.
WS: Después de este análisis de sellos, ¿alguna exclusiva que puedas contar? ¿Volverás a lanzar con alguno de ellos o tienes otros en mente?
D: Lo único que puedo decir es que puede que vuelva a repetir sello.
WS: After this record label analysis… Any exclusive that you can tell us? Will you keep on releasing songs with them or do you have any other label in mind?
D: The only thing I can say is that I may go back to one of those labels again.
