Entrevista a Shapov / Interview with Shapov:

Wololo Sound: ¡Hola, Alex!

Wololo Sound: Hi, Alex! It has been two years since the first interview we did together and you have grown up a lot as an artist since then. In such a long journey like yours, in which moment of your career do you think you are now? Which objectives do you have when you lock down in the studio?

Shapov: I’m at a big step in my career this year because I will release a lot of music that express different genres. I hope music lovers feel that I’m inspired by multiple kinds of sounds and emotions. I’m excited about what’s coming now because I can express myself with more diversity.

WS: We think that this was the right moment to chat with you again, just after having released your ‘Trilogy EP’ together with Armin van Buuren. How was your first contact and how did you start working? Which is the most valuable thing that you have learnt from him?

S: First of all, I am very proud of this EP, as we created new sounds which are mixing our styles. We started working on the first song before we met each other. My management connected me with Armada Team and they sent my demo of ‘The Last Dancer’ to Armin. Then we got excited to work on this song. Last, we decided to continue on this way and create more stuff together. I have learnt great things from Armin, as our collabs are emotional – I start to feel music even deeper.

WS: ‘The Last Dancer’, ‘Our Origin’ and ‘La Résistance de L’Amour’ find a perfect connection between his classic Trance and your Progressive House. Nevertheless, you guys have achieved a different sound in the three of them that makes all the tracks unique. Which one is your favourite?

S: Emotions are different in each track, but my favorite one would be The Last Dancer. It’s the first track from the EP and I love build-ups and uplifting feeling in this track.

WS: Now that you have ended this series of releases, could you tell us which your plans are for the near future? Have you thought about making more tracks for Armada or even going back to Axtone again? Also, do you have any other labels in mind?

S: My music reflects my feelings and I’m glad to be able to release music on both Axtone and Armada, which are amazing labels. I plan to release also on others labels to express some more complex feelings that I have been inspired from. I promise surprises about the next releases, in terms of label names and music direction.

WS: Your collaboration ‘Belong’ with Axwell has been one of the most important tracks in your career and the fans asked you to work on something new one again. Are you preparing any follow up? What do you think that is the best part of working with him?

S: I can’t express enough the gratitude I have for Axwell. I worked a lot together with Ax in studio and I learned a lot from him – he is such a great producer and also very kind person. I’m happy that we made ‘Belong’ and hopefully in the future we will release something new. It would be great to create the follow up of Belong, let’s see what the future will be.

WS: Back in the days when you were part of Hard Rock Sofa, Swedish House Mafia supported your tracks a lot. Do you feel that the new ones that you are about to release will fit their sets?

S: I create music because I need to express my feelings and I don’t follow a trend or a mood. If someone likes my music, then I’m happier. Hard Rock Sofa was an amazing experience for me and unbelievable moments I will always remember, but the music I create now will surprise you on the best way.
