Charlamos con el artista enmascarado más prometedor de la actual escena de hardstyle
En Wololo Sound nos gustan los misterios… ¡por eso hoy os traemos uno en forma de entrevista! Durante el take over de I AM HARDSTYLE en Dreambeach 2019 nos quedamos con las ganas de saber más sobre Aftershock, el desconocido artista cuyos temas están subiendo como la espuma en las mejores playlists de hardstyle. ¿Por qué será? ¿Llevará este DJ más años de los que pensamos produciendo en la sombra? Os dejamos sacar vuestras propias conclusiones con sus respuestas.
WOLOLO SOUND: ¡Hola Aftershock! Lo primero de todo, gracias por darnos la oportunidad de conocerte un poco mejor. Aunque no sabemos tu nombre real o tu apariencia física; estamos curiosos por saber, ¿por qué decidiste enmascararte como otros DJs?
AFTERSHOCK: Hola, ¡gracias por recibirme! Bueno, cuando supe que iba a actuar en Hard Bass intenté hacerlo en la forma más impactante posible. Nadie sabía que iba a pinchar en ese enorme escenario, solo b2s y un puñado de amigos y artistas. Así que pensé: “Sería increíble si un artista desconocido sin mostrar la cara subiese al escenario sin ser anunciado, y pusiese música nueva y se fuese otra vez a los 10 minutos o así”. Tenía la esperanza de interesar a la gente después de esta actuación.
WOLOLO SOUND: Hello Aftershock, first of all thank you for giving us the opportunity of knowing you a little bit more. Even though we don’t know your real name, or your physical appearance; we are curious to know, why did you decide to be masked as other DJs?
AFTERSHOCK: Hi! Thanks for having me! Well, once I knew I would be doing a showcase on Hard Bass I tried to make it as impactful as possible. Nobody knew that I would be playing on that huge stage, only b2s and a handful of friends and artists. So I thought to myself ‘how crazy would it be if a unknown artist without a face would take the stage unannounced and drop some new music and be gone again after like 10 minutes or so’. Hoping to get people interested after this performance.
WS: Ya has hecho un remix de un clásico del hardstyle producido por uno de los más grandes de la industria, que es ‘Fight The Resistance’ de Brennan Heart. ¿Has planeado alguna colaboración futura con él?
A: Sí, hace poco hicimos una canción nueva que tocamos juntos en The Gathering de Defqon.1. Definitivamente hay una buena atmósfera cuando estamos juntos, así que si dependiese de mi, haríamos algo en el futuro sin duda.
WS: You’ve already remixed a classic hardstyle track produced by one of the big names of the industry, which is ‘Fight The Resistance’ by Brennan Heart. Have you planned any future collaborations with him?
A: Yes, we recently made a new track which we also played together at The Gathering at Defqon.1! We definitely have a good vibe together so if it’s up to me we’re definitely gonna do more in the future.
WS: Es tu primera vez en España, y has actuado en uno de nuestros festivales más grandes. ¿Qué sentimientos recibiste de nuestro público? ¿Qué piensas sobre la escena de hardstyle española?
A: No tengo palabras para describir lo que pasó en España. Para ser un debut en vuestro país, es probablemente lo mejor que puedes conseguir como DJ. No creo que pueda superarlo pronto. Cuando estaba pinchando el sol estaba saliendo en la distancia, y eso es algo especial que no ves con frecuencia como DJ mientras actúas. Definitivamente algo especial. Siento que la escena de hardstyle española está creciendo rápidamente y un evento que cierra su Main Stage con unas cuantas horas de hardstyle es prueba de ello. ¡No puedo esperar a volver pronto!
WS: It is your first time in Spain, and you’ve played in one of our biggest festivals. What feeling did you receive from our crowd? What do you think about the Spanish Hardstyle scene?
A: I’m at a loss for words of what happened in Spain. For a debut in your country this was probably the best you can get as a DJ. I don’t think I’ll be able to top that anytime soon. When I was playing the sun was rising up in the distance, now that’s something special you don’t see very often as a DJ while performing. Definitely something special. I feel the Spanish Hardstyle scene is growing rapidly and for such an event to close down the mainstage with a couple of hours of Hardstyle is proof of that. I can’t wait to come back soon!
WS: Tu bootleg a la canción Cygnus X – Superstring lo puso W&W en el Mainstage de Tomorrowland. ¿Crees que es importante que el hardstyle suene en uno de los escenarios más grandes del mundo? ¿Crees que conseguirás pinchar allí algún día?
A: Para el crecimiento del hardstyle en el mundo, definitivamente ayuda que suene en el mainstage de Tomorrowland. Si es muy importante, no estoy tan seguro. La escena actual del hardstyle es muy próspera y se está expandiendo por todo el mundo por sí misma, sin el apoyo de Tomorrowland. Pero sí, Tomorrowland le da un pequeño empujón sin duda. Fue increíble verlos poner mi bootleg para ese público y por supuesto me encantaría actuar algún día en ese escenario. Fija objetivos altos y aspirarás más alto, ¿verdad?
WS: Your bootleg Cygnus X – Superstring was played by W&W at Tomorrowland’s Main Stage. Do you think that it is important for Hardstyle to sound in one of the biggest stages of the world? Do you think you’ll get to play there someday?
A: For the growth of Hardstyle in the world it definitely helps that Hardstyle is being played on the Tomorrowland mainstage nowadays. If it’s very important, I’m not so sure about. The current Hardstyle scene is very healthy and definitely still expanding worldwide on its own without the support from Tomorrowland. But yes, Tomorrowland definitely gives it a little push. I was amazing to see them play my bootleg for that crowd and yeah, of course I would love to play someday on that stage. Set your goals high and aim higher, right? Haha.
WS: Después del takeover en Dreambeach, ¿crees que I AM HARDSTYLE, como ya has sido parte de ello en Hard Bass, sería posible como festival en España?
A: En primer lugar, ¡sería increíble! Si la escena española se sigue extendiendo como hasta ahora, estoy seguro de que I AM HARDSTYLE puede hacer grandes cosas en España.
WS: After the takeover in Dreambeach, do you think that I AM HARDSTYLE, as you’ve been part of it already at Hard Bass, would be possible as a solo festival in Spain?
A: First off, that would be amazing! If the Spanish scene keeps expanding like it is doing right now I’m sure that I AM HARDSTYLE can do great things in Spain.
WS: Tu estilo de vida como DJ ha comenzado hace nada, pero hemos visto que estás creciendo muy rápido. ¿Consideras que es difícil comenzar una carrera musical en la escena de la música electrónica? ¿Algún consejo para alguien que quiera empezar?
A: ¡Gracias! Han sido 8 meses de locura y nunca pensé que llegaría al punto en el que estoy ahora mismo. Dicho esto, si, es muy difícil actualmente el poder tener una carrera profesional como DJ. Cuando era niño, todo el mundo quería ser jugador de fútbol o piloto, pero hoy en día los niños quieren ser DJs y actuar para miles de personas. Y no, no puedo culparles. Es, sin duda, algo especial.
Entonces, actualmente hay más competición que en el pasado. Pero creo que eso trae innovación, y la innovación es lo que hace que la música siga adelante. Mi consejo, practica y haz mucha música, pide opiniones y no mandes demos demasiado pronto. Solo puedes hacer una primera impresión. Si estás motivado y eres lo suficientemente persistente, si sigues haciendo lo que te encanta y no aceptas un “no” como respuesta; quizá, solo quizá, algún día todas las piezas encajarán.
WS: Your DJ-lifestyle has recently started, but we are able to see that you are growing very fast. Do you consider that it is hard to start a musical career on the electronic music scene? Any advices for someone who wants to start?
A: Thanks! It’s been a crazy 8 months and I’ve never expected to be at the point where I am right now. That being said, yeah, I think it is very hard nowadays to have a professional career as a DJ. When I was a child everybody wanted to become a professional football player or a pilot, but nowadays the kids want to become a DJ and perform for crowds of thousands. And no, I can’t blame them. It definitely is something special.
Then again this day and age brings more competition than in the past. But I believe that competition drives innovation and innovation is what keeps music going forward. My advice, practice and make tons of music, get feedback and don’t send out demos too soon, you only get one first impression. If you’re motivated and stubborn enough and keep doing what you love and don’t take no for an answer then maybe, just maybe, someday all pieces will fit together.
