El productor acaba de lazar su Little Devious EP en This Never Happened
Tras un inicio de temporada por todo lo alto con la entrevista a KSHMR, el 6×02 nos trae a uno de los artistas referentes en la escena progressive. Una entrevista a Dirty South donde nos cuenta sus últimas vivencias. Este artista que vió iniciada y potenciada su carrera tras pasar por el sello del Swedish House Mafia Axwell. Colaboraciones, remixes y multitud de proyectos que le llevaron a crear su propio sello, dando cuenta a varios álbumes, los dos últimos en el pasado año y ahora en pleno tour de su recién estrenado EP. – Wololo Sound: Buenas Dragan, queremos empezar hablando sobre tu reciente lanzamiento ‘Little Devious EP’ en This Never Happened, sello de Lane 8. ¿Qué has querido plasmar en estos cuatro lanzamientos?
– Dirty South: Este EP es una continuación de los dos últimos álbums (XV y Darko) que lancé el año pasado. Pensé sobre cuál debía ser el siguiente paso después de dos álbums, y no me sentí en el momento de hace otro álbum así que hice un puñado de nuevos temas de club para mis sets y lo demás lo dejé al destino. Mientras tanto Daniel (Lane 8) me llegó preguntando por algún nuevo tema, le envié estos cuatro y le encantaron. Así fue como todo ocurrió.
– Wololo Sound: Hey Dragan! We want to start talking about your latest release ‘Little Devious EP’ on Lane 8’s label, This Never Happened. What did you want to express and show on this four track EP?
– Dirty South: This EP is a continuation of the last two albums (XV and Darko) that I released last year. I was thinking about what the next step should be after the two albums, and I didn’t really feel like making another album at the time, so I just made a bunch of new club tracks for my dj sets and kind of left it to fate. In the mean time Daniel (Lane 8) reached out asking for any new tracks from me, so I sent his 4 and he loved them all. So that’s how it all happened.
– WS: Hemos visto tu halago a este sello con la música que está lanzando pero, ¿no has pensado alguna vez en ampliar el rango de tu ‘Phazing’ y dar oportunidad a otros productores?
– DS: Lo he pensado pero para ser realmente efectivo y claro en cada lanzamiento necesitas tener un equipo de gente para ello y tiempo para englobar toda la música y los artistas, pero no tenía tiempo para eso.
– WS: We saw your nice words to this label about the recent music they are releasing. Have you ever thought on extend your label ‘Phazing’ and give opportunities to other artists?
– DS: I thought about that, but to be really effective and fair for every release, you need to have a proper team of people and lots of time to develop all the music and artists, and I didn’t have time for that.
– WS: Desde tu sello lanzaste el pasado año algo pocas veces visto, dos álbumes. En XV vimos una mayor luminosidad y melodías, ¿qué te inspiró y como fue su proceso de creación?
– DS: Normalmente me cierro en el estudio y trabajo en ideas y muchos pequeños fragmentos. También me tomo muchos descansos para asegurarme de que puedo con esas ideas si realmente me gustan y si me siento con ganas de continuar trabajando en ellas. Una vez que tengo varias ideas hechas empiezo a verlo como una imagen más grande. Así es normalmente como se hacen los álbumes.
– WS: Last year you released something almost never seen, two albums! On XV we saw a bigger melodic and bright sound. What inspired you and how was the creation process?
– DS: I usually just lock myself in the studio and work on ideas and lots of little sketches. I also take a lot of brakes to make sure I can come back to these ideas and see if I really like them and if I’m feeling like I want to continue working on them. Once I have a few ideas done, I start to see a bigger picture. This is usually how an album happens.
– WS: Por el contrario, Darko muestra tu lado más profundo y oscuro. ¿Qué diferencias hay para ti, como creador, entre estos dos álbumes?
– DS: Darko es definitivamente el primo malhumorado de XV, y una vez que trabajé con muchas ideas y lo terminé, Darko empezó a tomar forma y a coger el sentido que quise en ese momento de tener un álbum instrumental. Me sentí muy inspirado el año pasado y fui muy feliz de poder sacar dos álbumes en un año.
– WS: On the other side, Darko shows your darker and deeper sound. Which are the differences for you, like the creator, between both albums?
– DS: Darko is definitely the moodier cousin of XV, and once again I worked on a lot of ideas and once I had a few finished, Darko started to form and it all made sense to me in that moment to have an all instrumental album. I felt really inspired last year and I was super happy that I could pull off two albums in once year.
– WS: Tras esta variedad musical y estos cambios en tu sonido, ¿A dónde crees que se dirige tu música de manera natural?
– DS: Te diría que siempre disfruto con el sentido melancólico y normalmente me gusta crear cosas así. A veces va en una dirección diferente pero creo es parte de explorar y probar en el estudio, que es como me gusta trabajar. No suelo ir al estudio pensando en exactamente el track que voy a hacer, simplemente pruebo y veo lo que pasa.
– WS: Behind this creative and varied styles on your sound. Where do you think your music goes on a natural way?
– DS: I would say I always enjoy the melancholy vibes and usually I like to make stuff like this. Sometimes it goes in a different direction but I guess that’s all part of exploring and jamming in the studio which is how I love to work. I don’t usually go to the studio and think on exactly what kind of track I will make, I just jam and see what happens.
– WS: Después de ese 2018 frenético hemos podido verte más relajado en cuanto a lanzamientos este año pero hemos visto que no has salido del estudio… ¿qué tienes preparado para la segunda parte del año y comienzo del siguiente?
– DS: Estoy en mitad del tour Little Devious EP así que no es fácil hacer música viajando, pero estoy más o menos preparado mentalmente para la próxima vez que vaya al estudio. No estoy seguro de qué va a pasar pero seguro que con muchas pruebas la imagen se definirá pronto.
– WS: After these frenetic 2018 now we can see you releaxed about the number of releases, but you also dont left the studio alone so… what do you have prepared for the end of the year and the beginning of 2020?
– DS: I’m in the middle of the Little Devious EP tour so it’s not easy to make music on the road, but I am kind of mentally preparing for the next time I get to be in the studio and jam. I’m not exactly sure what it’s going to be, but I’m sure with lots of jamming the picture will be clearer soon.
– WS: En tus giras te solemos ver actuando en Estados Unidos, Sudamérica o en Asia, ¿qué le pasa a Europa que nos es tan difícil verte? ¿Te podremos ver cerca de España pronto?
– DS: Desafortunadamente nada este año. No ha salido nada debido a los viajes y la programación pero espero volver a Europa en 2020 con aún más música. Echo de menos actuar en Europa este año.
– WS: On your tours you usually visit United States, South America or Asia but, what’s going on with Europe? So difficult to see you around here, do you have some dates here soon?
– DS: Nothing this year unfortunately. It just hasn’t worked out this way due to travel and scheduling but I’m hoping I’ll be back in Europe in 2020 with even more music! I miss playing in Europe this year.
– WS: Sobre la escena actual donde el tech house está creciendo de manera exponencial, ¿cuál crees que es el factor fundamental para este crecimiento?
– DS: No estoy seguro de cuál es la respuesta pero diría que son todos ciclos de la vida básicamente. A los fans les gusta algo y la moda cambia porque están aburridos o porque han crecido. Entonces la siguiente generación de fans entran en escena y el ciclo vuelve a cambiar. Es la vida creo.
– WS: About the actual electronic music scene, tech house sound is growing up exponentially, what do you think is the main reason for that?
– DS: I’m not sure what the answer is, but I would say it’s just cycles of life basically. Fans like something then the trend changes because they are bored or they grow up. Then the next generation of fans comes through and it all cycles again. It’s just life I guess.
– WS: Por último, como gran músico que eres y con el estudio increíble que has creado, ¿qué recomendación podrías hacerle a esos nuevos productores que se intentan hacer un hueco en la escena?
– DS: El consejo más importante que le diría a cualquiera es ser fiel a uno mismo y resistir en lo que crees. A veces es difícil hacer esto en la vida, pero,en ocasiones, si eres fiel a ti mismo, se gana y, lo más importante, serás feliz.
– WS: The last one is about the new producers and artists trying to take his space on the scene, what advices can you give them? What do you thing is the more important thing to grow now?
– DS: The most important advice I would give anyone is to be true to yourself and stick to what you believe in. Sometimes it’s hard in life to do this, but eventually if you stick to the truth, you will win and most importantly you will be happy.
