¡Arrancamos el 2023 de la mejor manera posible! Nuestra visita a WORLD CLUB DOME Winter Edition nos brindó la oportunidad de conocer más en detalle al gran Don Diablo, una de las figuras más remarcables y veneradas de nuestra escena. Creador de verdaderos anthems como ‘AnyTime’ o ‘What We Started’, el visionario neerlandés tiene un currículum musical que habla por sí solo. Y es que además de su ilustre carrera musical, ha llevado su experiencia y conocimiento a otros campos como la moda, el arte y la tecnología, convirtiéndose a partir de esto último, en uno de los pioneros del futurismo y lo digital en la electrónica. Sobre esto y mucho más hablamos con él en nuestra entrevista que podéis leer más abajo.
Wololo Sound -¡Hola Don! Es un tremendo placer para Wololo Sound el poder contar con esta entrevista contigo. Acabas de saltar al mainstage de uno de los festivales más destacados del invierno en toda Europa, ¿cuáles son tus sensaciones sobre el show? ¿Pudieron los fans escuchar mucha música nueva por tu parte?
Don Diablo – Encantado de conoceros. Y sí, tenía 3/4 temas nuevos para probar que nunca había pinchado en ningún sitio. Espero que no se filtren en Internet jaja. Esta noche también he pinchado mi nuevo single, que terminé hace dos días y que saldrá en enero.
Es una especie de prueba para mí, porque normalmente no pincho en muchos bolos en invierno, pero sigo haciendo música, así que es una buena manera de probar mi nueva música con un público grande.
Wololo Sound – Hi Don! It is a tremendous pleasure for Wololo Sound to be able to count on you for this interview. You just jumped onto the mainstage of one of the most relevant winter festivals of all Europe. What were your feelings regarding the show? Did the fans get a lot of new music from you?
Don Diablo – Nice to meet you! And yeah, I had 3/4 new records to test out that I had never played anywhere before. I hope they don’t get leaked in the Internet haha. I played my new single tonight as well, that I finished two days ago and which is coming out in January.
It is kind of like a test-case for myself, because usually I don’t play many shows in the winter but I am still out there making music so this is a good way for me to also test new music on a great crowd.
WS – Coincidimos contigo durante la celebración del último ADE, durante el que fuiste protagonista de una ponencia sobre inteligencia artificial y el mundo del metaverso. ¿Qué fue lo que te hizo implantar esta herramienta en tu carrera?
D – Si me conoces un poco, sabrás que siempre me ha interesado Además, siempre siento que no tengo tiempo suficiente. A veces la gente me pregunta: “¿Por qué te interesa tanto el futuro?” Y es porque me fascina el tiempo, y no tengo tiempo suficiente.
Así que con la inteligencia artificial puedo ser 12 personas, puedo hacer muchas cosas por mí mismo y puedo hacer literalmente cualquier cosa que esté en mi cerebro y hacer que funcione en el mundo real. Eso siempre me ha fascinado.
WS – We came across you at the last ADE edition, during which you were the protagonist of a lecture about A.I and the metaverse world. What was the thing that made implement this tool into your career?
D – If you know me a little bit, then you know, I’m always interested about the future. Plus, I always feel like I don’t have enough time. Sometimes people ask me: Why are you so interested in the future? And it is because I am fascinated with time, and I don’t have enough time.
So with artificial intelligence I can be 12 people, I can do so much by myself and I can just literally get anything done that is in my brain and make it work in the real world! That has always fascinated me.
WS – ¿Lo ves realmente como algo útil para hacer crecer tu marca y tu imagen de artista?
D – Sabes, ahora mismo todo va tan rápido y es algo tan, tan, tan emocionante que de verdad me quita el sueño por las noches. Y creo que estamos entrando en una época en la que las cosas van a cambiar muy deprisa y quiero estar a la vanguardia de ello, ya sea en lo que respecta a la música, la moda, el arte o la tecnología. Para mí, creo que si estás ahí ahora eres parte de la revolución, estás al principio de una revolución.
WS – Do you actually see it as something useful to make your brand and your artist image grow?
D – You know, right now everything is going so fast and it is so, so, so exciting that it really keeps me up at night. And I think we’re going into a time where things are gonna change very fast and I want to be at the forefront of it, whether it comes to music, fashion, art or tech. For me, I think, if you were there now you’re you’re part of the revolution, you’re at the beginning of a revolution.
WS – Hexagon ha crecido exponencialmente en los últimos años y actualmente cuentas con una amplia gama de subsellos. Además, todo esto está respaldado por una gran base de fans. Después de todos estos grandes logros… ¿Qué diría el Don de 15 años sobre hoy?
D – ¡Oh! Probablemente diría: No te estreses. Me emociono mucho con todo. Y creo que diría: disfruta un poco más del proceso, porque a veces me pongo muy serio porque siento que quiero ayudar a tanta gente como pueda antes de dejar este planeta. Pero a veces diría que, en medio de ese proceso, también hay que pensar en uno mismo. Creo que es algo que he olvidado en los últimos años.
WS – Hexagon has grown exponentially during the last years and you currently have a wide range of sublabels. Moreover, you have a huge fanbase behind all of this. After all these huge achievements… What would the 15 years old Don would say about today?
D – Oh! He would probably say: Don’t stress it. I get very emotional about everything. And I think I’d say just enjoy the process a little bit more because sometimes I get very serious because I feel I want to help as many people as I can before I leave this planet. But sometimes I would probably say, in the process of that, kind of think about yourself as well. I think that’s something I forgot over the last couple of years.
WS – En general, ¿cómo te sientes siendo Don Diablo?
D – Por encima de todo, no me arrepiento de nada. Estoy muy agradecido. Estoy muy contento con la familia que hemos construido.
También ha sido muy duro porque me he dado cuenta de que en los últimos años mucha gente se ha aprovechado de mí y eso ha agotado mi energía. Así que me digo a mí mismo que tengo que protegerme un poco mejor de la gente mala que hay ahí fuera. Creo que mucha gente se pregunta: “¿Dónde has estado?” Porque a veces ya no salgo tanto, porque estoy muy centrado en trabajar y crear, pero también porque he tenido muchas reacciones negativas y me han pasado muchas cosas con gente en la que pensaba que podía confiar y resultó que era todo lo contrario.
Probablemente me advertiría a mí mismo y creo que también es una advertencia para todos los jóvenes artistas. Hay muchas serpientes en la industria. Así que céntrate siempre en tu creatividad e intenta mantener la cabeza alta porque se avecina tormenta.
WS – All in all, how do you feel about being Don Diablo?
D – Above all, I don’t regret anything. I’m very grateful. I’m very happy for the family that we’ve built.
It’s also been very tough because I just realized that the last few years a lot of people have been taken advantage of me and it’s really drained my energy. So I tell myself to protect myself a little bit better from the the evil people out there. I think a lot of people wonder: “Where have you been?” Because sometimes I don’t show myself as much anymore, because I’m very focused on working and creating, but also because I’ve had a lot of backlash and a lot of things happening to me from people who I thought I could trust and it turned out it was the contrary.
I probably would warn myself and I think it’s a warning for every young artist out there as well. There’s a lot of snakes in the industry. So always focus on your creativity and try to just keep your head up because there’s a storm coming.
