WS: If we think of Benny Bennasi, a successful artist for more than 20 years in the electronic music industry instantly comes to mind. What is the secret to staying in the elite for so many years?

BB: I guess for me it’s always playing the music I like, staying true to my own taste and trying to refresh my sound in my own eclectic style. I listen to my old vinyls with my production team and I try to draw inspiration from them. Suddenly we hit upon a sound or a mood or just a kind of energy that gets us going and off we go to try to make some good new music that looks to the future while planting its roots in the past.

WS: You just released the new track “One More Night” with Bryn Christopher, can you tell us a bit about how the release came together and the role that the track plays in your sets?

BB: Being able to work on this track with Stuart Crichton, one of my favourite songwriters, was like realizing a dream. The track has a huge Ibiza vibe with an undeniable groove. It’s one that I’m always looking forward to playing because the crowd reactions are always unbelievable!

WS: A few months ago the new version that you and David Guetta have made of ‘Satisfaction’, one of your classics, came to light. At what point did you decide to bring this anthem back?

BB: I’ve known David for over 20 years. I remember I would get messages from resident DJs in Ibiza who heard David playing Satisfaction at Pacha two decades ago! So he was definitely one of the very first supporters of the original version. And when he played me his initial idea for this new version, I totally loved it. He’s made it current again, it’s very Ibiza with a really great intro and it’s perfect for today’s DJ sets. I played it out for the first time in Mykonos and people went crazy. Everyone was asking me what it was.

WS: Another of your recent songs that we enjoyed too is ‘Lightwaves’ with the talented Anabel Englund. How did this curious and great collaboration happen?

BB: A talented producer from my team, Riccardo Marchi,  came up with an interesting instrumental and Kelli Leigh, along with Salena Mastroianni, wrote an amazing topline on it! Then I thought that Anabel Englund would be the perfect fit. I sent it to her and she liked it. We worked on it with Nick Henriques too. It was a team effort and the result is great, I think.

WS: Your career to this day is enviable. 4 solo albums and dozens of hits like ‘Cinema’ or ‘Beautiful People’ corroborate this. Looking back at your brilliant and longlasting career, what would you say is the most beautiful moment you have experienced?

BB: Finding myself unexpectedly in the Dj Mag Top 100 was great.

WS: This summer we were able to enjoy your show at the Nameless Music Festival. The atmosphere was spectacular throughout the festival but with you, there was a special atmosphere. What does it feel like to play at home and receive all the love of your audience?

BB: It’s always special. The crowd is really warm and reactive. It’s wonderful and hey, there’s no place like home! I love this festival and I feel part of the Nameless family.

WS: Promising names are coming out of Italy in the mainstream scene like Havoc & Lawn or Merk & Kremont. Also, on the techno scene with artists like Enrico Sangiuliano or Anfisa Letyago. But above all, Italy is a standard bearer of melodic techno thanks to Tale Of Us, Mathame or Agents of Time. As a referent of the Italian electronic culture, we would like you to give us your current vision of the electronic scene in your country.

BB: They’re all very talented artists and deserve their success. I’m really glad that younger Italian artists are coming up and doing well outside italy.. It’s great for the scene out here. There’s definitely a techno thing happening, there always has been in Italy, but it’s not just techno.

WS: Your passion for music after all these years of career does not seem to slow down. What is Benny Bennasi’s next musical step? Maybe a new album?

BB: I’m pretty eclectic and as long as I have this burning passion and as long as there are people out there reacting positively to what I do I keep on doing it. The next musical step is…. More music!
