Wololo Sound: First of all, we would love to ask you about your beginnings and influences. Would you imagine yourself producing this kind of music? At what age, did you realise you could live by your music?

Yotto: I started out making music when I was like 13, but it was always just for fun. I found all these great electronic records at the library and fell in love with The Chemical Brothers, The Orb, Orbital etc. For some reason I wanted to try and make it so I started looking for some software. I moved through a lot of genres and finally found myself making house music.

WS: You are from Finland, a country with a very little exposure to electronic music, similar to what happens in Spain. How did you get to be recognised in an international scale being from a country like this? Is there anyone who owns that part of your success?

Y: For a small country we have a pretty good amount of electronic music and a great culture around it. The best thing about electronic music in 2018 is that it’s completely global, so it does not really matter where you are from.

WS: We have seen you producing different genres, even inside the same EP or album. Do you have a pattern for being so dynamic or it just comes along with all the creative process?

Y: Hehe yes, I just make music that I enjoy at that particular moment. I have my sounds that I love to use but I always play around with different moods and tempos.

WS: Hace unas semanas lanzaste ‘Hyperfall’.

WS: Some weeks ago Hyperfall was released. We will ask you some more things about the album but first, how has been the reception from the audience?

Y: The reaction has been great so far! I’m happy and the tour has been going really well.

WS: ‘Hyperfall’ es tu álbum debut. ¿Cuánto tiempo has estado trabajando en él?

WS: ‘HYPERFALL’ is your debut album. How long have you been working on it? When do you decide to make it a LP?

Y: It took me about a year – some tracks are older and some of them I finished only a couple of weeks before finishing the album. I had some music that did not make sense as an EP so I wanted to build a bigger project starting from there.

Y: Me gustan mucho ‘Outsight’ y ‘Odd One Out’.

WS: Among all the 13 tracks in the album, is there anyone that you specially love or has a special meaning to you?

Y: I really like ‘Outsight’ and ‘Odd One Out’. Also Nada C is fun, I originally made it like 13 years ago and then found it and reproduced some of it.

Y: Hahaha todavía no. Quizá algún día 🙂

WS: We know it is very early yet but we want to be the first ones to ask you. Any plans on your second album already? 🙂

Y: Haha not yet! Maybe one day 🙂

WS: Hyperfall has been released on Anjunadeep, such as most of your productions before. How did you manage to get to the label and how is your relation with Above & Beyond?

Y: Above & Beyond have been very supportive with some of their shows and taking me as a support DJ to some massive events. The label originally asked me to do a mixtape for their radio show. I then filled the mix with my own tracks and they ended up signing most of the music from it.

WS: Last year we could see you at ADE in Joris Voorn & Kolsch’s party. This year you played at Anjunadeep’s party. What does this event mean for you?

Y: ADE is a great week for the industry and there is just so much going on. It’s always good to see some friends and hang around Amsterdam.

Sonar, Primavera Sound, etc. También me gustan mucho Henry Saiz y Edu Imbernon.

WS: Do you have any reference of our electronic music scene in our country? Any artist or festival that you have heard good things about?

Y: Oh Spain has a lot of great stuff. Sonar, Primavera, etc. I really like Henry Saiz and Edu Imbernon.

WS: Para acabar hagamos unas preguntas rápidas:

– Una canción (no electrónica): The National – Humiliation

WS: To finish, let’s go with some short questions:

A Spanish food: Paella
A city to live: Espoo
Favourite sport and team: Ice Hockey and Finland (obviously)
An artist to spend an afternoon in the studio: Ewan Pearson
An artist to go B2B: Desyn Masiello
A hobby (not related to music): Running
A song (not electronic music): The National – Humiliation
