Lo bonito de la vida es que es imprevisible y nunca sabes lo que te va a deparar, y si no que se lo digan a Taty Muñoz, o como la conocemos todos, Miane. Años de esfuerzo y trabajo compaginando su trabajo diario con su pasión por la música se vieron compensados el año pasado firmando uno de los mejores tracks del panorama club como fue ‘Who Are You?’ en Black Book Records, el sello de Chris Lake.
Ahora en 2022 es sin duda una de las artistas a seguir, con grandes lanzamientos que se avecinan como el reciente ‘Don’t Wanna Lie‘ o las fechas que tiene ya confirmadas en su calendario, destacando la Miami Music Week, Black Book in the Park, Chris Lake b2b Fisher Under Construction, cierre de gira de Gorgon City en Printworks London este mismo sábado o por supuesto la joya de la corona, Coachella.
Hemos tenido el placer de hablar con ella para que nos cuente cómo ha vivido (y sigue viviendo) todo este cambio tan drástico y nos cuente más de cerca todo lo que se avecina. Una charla muy interesante con uno de los nombres nacionales más internacionales de la actualidad. ¡Allá vamos con la entrevista a Miane!
Wololo Sound: ¡Muy buenas Taty! Es un placer tenerte en Wololo Sound. Sin duda eres una de las artistas con más futuro de nuestro país y estamos encantados de que nos concedas esta entrevista.
Miane: El placer es mío. Tenía muchas ganas ya de hablar con vosotros así que estoy encantada de estar aquí.
Wololo Sound: Hi Taty! It is an absolute pleasure to have you here in Wololo Sound. You are with no doubt one of the artists with the brightest future from our country and we are pleased with you giving us this interview.
Miane: The pleasure is mine! I was looking forward to talking to you so I am very pleased to be here.
WS: Eres uno de los nombres del momento en nuestra industria, pero todo tiene un comienzo. ¿Cómo ha sido tu carrera musical desde tus inicios hasta el día de hoy?
M: Mi pasión por la música viene de familia, he crecido con música en toda la casa y mis padres me han inculcado esta cultura que me ha ido acompañándome siempre. Luego ya cuando empecé a poder salir con mis amigos de fiesta me enamoré más aún de este mundo. Luego también en mi familia, mi abuelo estaba siempre con los vinilos y con la música, y como yo me quedaba en su casa todos los fines de semana siempre me enseñaba algo nuevo. Por lo que entre mi propia curiosidad de conocer nueva música más lo que me enseñaba mi abuelo creo que mi pasión empezó a crecer ahí.
Fui creciendo musicalmente en Málaga, primero empezando a pinchar y después adentrándome en el mundo de la producción porque actuar no me saciaba del todo, descubrí que necesitaba hacer mi propia música. Así hasta que llegó el día de venirme a Ibiza, algo que no estaba nada organizado. Un grupo de amigos, entre los cuales estaba mi vecina de arriba, dijeron que se iban a ir a vivir a Ibiza y yo me apunté, pero mi historia no es la típica de ir a Ibiza a triunfar. Y de ese momento pues hasta aquí.
WS: You are one of the trendy names from the industry right now but everything has a starting point. How has your musical carrier been from the beginning until today?
M: My passion for music comes from my family. I have grown up with music all over the house and my parents have instilled this culture that has been with me forever. Then, when started going out with my friends I fell in love with this world even more. Then, also my family my grandpa was always messing around with vinyls and music and as I stayed in his house every weekend he always taught me something new. So because of my own curiosity about getting to know new music in addition to what my grandpa taught me, I think my passion started to grow up there.
I musically grew up in Malaga, first playing and then getting into the production world later on because playing shows was not enough for me and I found out that I needed to make my own music. It was that way until the day arrived and I finally came to Ibiza was not planned at all. A group of friends, in which my neighbor from the upper floor was, said that they were going to move to Ibiza and I joined in, but my story is not the typical one of moving to Ibiza to succeed. And from that moment until now.
WS: Eres natural de Málaga, pero como has dicho te fuiste a vivir a Ibiza. ¿Cómo llegaste a decidir este cambio drástico? ¿Te fue difícil?
M: Lo de Ibiza no estaba en mis planes en aquel momento, lo decidí como ya te he dicho no por la carrera musical sino por la iniciativa de mis amigos, pero si es cierto que ayuda estar allí para generar contactos. Empecé el primer año con 8 personas en la misma casa, durmiendo en un sofá y mi compañero de habitación con un colchón en el suelo, y esto era al principio porque luego en temporada alta en Ibiza éramos más personas. Después de esa experiencia ya no volví a compartir piso, porque me molestaba mucho estar tomando mis cereales viendo la tele y que la gente no parara de pasar delante de mí, algunos de after…
A mí me gusta la fiesta obviamente, pero una de las cosas que tengo más claras es que la casa es para descansar. El segundo año estuve con una amiga y mi hermana, y después de ahí ya sola. Los alquileres eran, son y seguirán siendo caros porque es la zona en la que estamos, y se me hizo bastante difícil al comienzo. Ahora estoy tranquila afortunadamente y espero que siga así.
WS: You are from Malaga, but as you said to moved to Ibiza. How did you make that drastic decision? Was it difficult?
M: The Ibiza thing was not in my plans at that time, as I told you I didn’t do it because of my musical career but because of my friends’ initiative, but it is true that once I was there it helped me to get in touch with some people. I started the year with eight people in the same house, sleeping on a sofa and my roommate on a mattress on the floor and that was at the beginning because then in the high season of Ibiza we were more people. After that experience I haven’t shared a flat again because it bothered me to be having my cereal while watching TV and that people didn’t stop walking in front of me, some of them while afterpartying…
I love partying, obviously, but of the things I know for sure is that the house is there to rest. The second year I was with a friend and my sister, and from there on I’ve been alone. Rents were, are and will keep on being very expensive because of the area in which we are, it was a very difficult beginning. Right now I am feeling very calm and I hope it is keeping that way.
WS: Hace poco vimos un post en el que indicabas que dejabas el trabajo que tenías para dedicarte profesionalmente a la música al 100%. ¿Qué se siente en el momento en el que sabes que has logrado finalmente tu sueño?
M: Han pasado ya dos semanas creo desde que dejé mi otro trabajo y todavía estoy un poco desubicada. Cuando deseas algo con tanto ímpetu y de repente llega, te cuesta digerirlo. Hace una semana estaba probando nueva música en mi habitación y de repente dije “hostia tío, que es verdad que he dejado mi trabajo para dedicarme sólo a la música”. Además cuando hice la carta de aviso para dejar el trabajo me quedé mirando la pantalla del ordenador fijamente, dudando en si darle a enviar.
Cuando las cosas parecen que se hacen realidad, es muy raro experimentarlas. Todavía estoy un poco desubicada incluso sin saber en qué día vivo porque si antes trabajaba los 7 días a la semana con ambas cosas, ahora enfocada a la música 100% pues más aún, lo único que me despierto un poco más tarde jajaja. Pero he de decir que estoy muy feliz y contenta.
WS: Not long ago we saw a post in which you said that you were leaving the job you had behind to professionally dedicate yourself to music at 100%. What do you feel in that moment in which you see that you have finally achieved your dream?
M: It’s been 2 weeks since I left my other job and I’m still a little lost. When you wish something so hard and it suddenly comes, it is hard to digest. A week ago I was trying music in my new room and out of the blue I thought to myself “shit man, it’s true that I have just left my job to just dedicate to music”. Furthermore, when I wrote the resignation letter to leave my job I was staring at the screen doubting if I should send it or not.
When things look like they turn into reality, it is really weird to experience them. I’m still a little out of place, even without knowing on which day I live because if I worked seven days a week before focused on both things, now that I dedicate myself 100% to music, even more, the only thing is that I wake up a little later hahaha. But I must say I feel glad and pleased.
WS: 2021 fue el año en el que diste el salto al siguiente nivel, sobre todo gracias al hit ‘Who Are You?’ publicado en Black Book Records. ¿Cómo se gestó este release y el remix del jefe del sello Chris Lake?
M: A mí cuando me preguntan por un DJ o productor favorito no sé qué responder porque para mí es un conjunto de todo, de algunos me gustan más unas características y de otros, pues otras. Pero Chris no sé por qué, pero siempre me ha llamado mucho la atención. Creo haber llegado a la conclusión de que es porque utiliza mucho las vocales en un estilo parecido al mío, por ejemplo, yo tenía una obsesión con ‘Stay With Me’ que es un tema suyo.
No sé si la gente creerá en la ley de atracción, pero yo creo en ella. Un día estaba yo andando por el centro de Ibiza y de repente veo un mensaje directo en Twitter de Chris Lake, yo por supuesto estaba diciendo que no podía ser verdad. El propio Chris me dijo que llevaba tiempo escuchándome, me mencionó incluso canciones mías que había seguido y que cuándo le iba a enviar música. Tras leer esto yo no me lo creía, me iba a caer para atrás del susto, ¡y encima Chris!
Entonces le mandé unos cuantos temas que tenía, pero en este caso no cogió ninguno. Le mandé una segunda tanda una semana después y ahí estaba dentro ‘Who Are You?’, y en dos horas me contestó Chris diciéndome que la firmaba. Más tarde fue cuando me preguntó si quería me hiciese un remix al tema, y yo era como: ¿Qué si quiero? Si quieres hazme un álbum entero incluso jajaja.
WS: 2021 was the year in which you stepped to the next level, especially thanks to the hit ‘Who Are You?’, released on Black Book Records. How did you manage that release and the remix from the label boss Chris Lake?
M: Whenever they ask me about a favorite DJ or producer I don’t know what to answer because for me it is a compound of everything, I like some characteristics from some, then some from others. But Chris I don’t know why he has always caught my eye. I think I got to the conclusion that it is because he uses vocals in a style that is very similar to mine. For example, I was really obsessed with ‘Stay With Me’, which is one of his tracks.
I don’t know if people will believe in the attraction law but I believe in it. One day I was walking around the Ibiza center and suddenly I saw a direct message on Twitter by Chris Lake, I was obviously thinking that it could not be true. Chris himself told me that he had been listening to my music for a while and he even mentioned some of my tracks that he had followed, and asked me when I was going to send him music. After reading this I could not believe it, I was even going to pass out! And it was Chris!
Then I sent him some tracks, but in this case, he didn’t pick any of them out. A week later I sent him a second batch and ‘Who Are You?’ was in there. It was I need two hours later that Chris replied to me telling me that he was going to sign it. It was a while later when he asked me if I wanted him to make an official remix to the track and I was like “You can make a whole album if you want to hahaha”.
WS: Tras ese éxito, esta semana has firmado tu regreso al sello con un auténtico rompepistas como es ‘Don’t Wanna Lie’. ¿Qué esperas de este nuevo lanzamiento?
M: En este tema he intentado conseguir dos cosas: la primera de ellas es seguir con la historia de ‘Who Are You?’, ya que a mí me gusta mostrar mi lado más sensible en las canciones y que tengan un significado. La otra cosa que quería lograr es adaptarme a mi intención de producir a partir de ahora más para un público más masivo, como el de un festival, y con este tema creo que lo he conseguido.
Ahora he de decir que me siento más segura al producir y quizá estoy enseñando una parte de mi que la tenía, pero me daba más coraje mostrarla, en la cual me enfoco más en las melodías que es lo que a mí me gusta. Espero que funcione.
WS: After that success, this week you have signed your return to the label with an absolute banger like ‘Don’t Wanna Lie’. What do you expect from this new release?
M: In this track, I tried to get two things: the first of them is to continue with the ‘Who Are You?’ story because I like to show my most sensitive side in songs and I want them to have a meaning. The other thing I wanted to achieve is adapting to my intention of producing for a larger audience, like the one from a festival, and I think I got that with this track.
I must say that I feel more confident when producing and that I am showing a part of me that I had but I was not keen on showing in, in which I focus more on melodies which is what I really like. I hope it works.
WS: Aunque estés muy ligada a Black Book, hay otros sellos muy importantes en los que has sacado música como por ejemplo Repopulate Mars. Estarás en la importante Miami Music Week actuando en el showcase de este label. ¿Cómo vas a afrontar esta experiencia?
M: Yo que sé, para mí todo esto es nuevo tengo que ver como afrontarlo jajaja. A Lee ya le conozco de México y la verdad que tuvimos un acercamiento súper bueno. Por Internet ya se intuía que iba a haber buena relación, pero en persona la verdad es que me sentí súper arropada por él y por todo el equipo. Creo que va a estar muy bien y tengo unas ganas increíbles.
WS: Although you are linked to Black book there are many labels in which you have released music such as Repopulate Mars. You will be playing in the remarkable Miami Music Week in this label’s showcase. How are you going to face this experience?
M: I don’t know, this is all very new for me so I have to see how to face it. I already know Lee from Mexico and I must say that we had a really good approach. On the internet you could see that there was going to be a good relationship but face to face I felt very warm because of him I’m from the whole team. I think it is going to be really nice and I’m really excited.
WS: Hablando de México, ¿qué tal fue la actuación en Holy Ship!? Sin duda uno de los festivales más atractivos para el público y para los artistas.
M: Súper guay. Aparte nunca había asistido a un festival producido por gente americana aunque se celebrara en México y entre que estaba rodeado por un montón de artistas, y además estás en constante comunicación con la gente, yo podía estar sentada tranquilamente y los asistentes se acercaban a pedirte fotos, era muy guay. Tú podías ver pasar por ejemplo a Chris, a Lee, a cualquiera. Puedes estar también en la hamaca de la piscina tan tranquilamente para relajarte un poco. Me lo pasé muy bien y sin duda fue una experiencia inolvidable.
WS: Talking about Mexico, how was the show in Holy Ship? Without a doubt, one of the most attractive festivals for both the audience and the artists.
M: It was very cool, I had never attended a festival produced by American people even though it was taking place in Mexico and because of being surrounded by many artists and because of being in contact with people, I could be sitting down chilling and people surrounded you to ask you for photos. It was pretty cool you could see people like Chris or Lee walking around or anybody. You could also be in the hammock next to the swimming pool just chilling to relax a little bit. I had a lot of fun and it was without a doubt an unforgettable experience.
WS: Y no se queda solo en Miami o México. Una vez has abierto las puertas de Norteamérica has entrado dejando huella, sobresaliendo tu confirmación para Coachella. ¿Cómo digiere alguien el estar compaginando un trabajo con la carrera musical, y al día siguiente dar un salto tan grande como es actuar en Coachella?
M: Actuar ya te lo diré después de que pase toda esta locura. Pero ahora saber qué voy a pinchar allí todavía no lo termino de asimilar, aunque lo supiera desde hace muchos meses atrás, pero hasta que no ves tu nombre ahí no lo crees de verdad. Para que te voy a mentir, yo me metía en su perfil y me preguntaba por qué no subían el cartel de una vez, además con la sombra del Covid acechando generaba mucha ansiedad, lo pasas mal.
Y un día me despierto y veo un montón de mensajes en el móvil hablando de Coachella, y yo preguntando a las 6 de la mañana recién levantada “¿Y tú cómo sabes eso? Entre al perfil del festival y ver mi nombre en el cartel finalmente fue increíble la verdad. Ese momento lo guardaré para siempre con todo el mundo escribiéndome para felicitarme y yo por fin soltando la adrenalina porque lo quería decir ya.
WS: And not only Miami or Mexico, you have also opened the gate in North America, leaving a mark and especially highlighting your confirmation for Coachella. How does somebody digest the fact that you are bearing with a job apart from your musical career, and the following day you step up so big as to be acting on Coachella?
M: I will tell you how the thing is after all this madness happens. Now that I know that I am going to play there I can assimilate it yet, although I had known from many months ago. But until you don’t see your name there you don’t fully believe it. To be honest, I got in their profile and I wondered why they wouldn’t upload the line-up once and for all, especially with the COVID shadow stalking from behind, it created so much anxiety I really had a hard time.
One day I woke up and I saw a lot of messages on my phone talking about Coachella at 6:00 a.m. and I was wondering how people knew that. Then I took a look at the festival profile and I saw my name finally on the line-up and it was incredible. I will always keep that moment for myself, with everybody writing to congratulate me and finally being able to release all that adrenaline because I wanted to say it so bad.
WS: Otro de los sellos a los que más afín eres es Realm Records, el sello de Gorgon City. Has llegado a participar en el álbum de remixes de ‘Olympia’ con tu remezcla a ‘Body Language’ y esta semana debutarás en Printworks London en el cierre de gira aplazado del álbum. ¿Qué tal es tu relación con el dúo y cómo te sientes respecto a este show tan importante?
M: Con Matt muy bien, le he conocido en persona aquí en Ibiza y cada vez que podemos nos vemos. Me siento súper contenta también porque a mí me gusta la música electrónica en general pero me siento muy llamada por aquellas canciones en las que las vocales tienen mucho peso como Chris o Gorgon City, y poco a poco voy acercándome a lo que yo quiero.
Gorgon me ayudan mucho, estaré en Printworks esta semana y también en Miami con ellos pero todavía estoy asimilando todo. Yo lo cuento porque estoy alegre, no para fardar pero es que realmente me está pasando todo ahora por lo que es muy abrumador. Y sobre todo estoy contenta con firmar donde estoy firmando porque es a donde quería llegar desde un principio y no encerrarme en lo underground, aunque me guste y lo pinche también. Pero cada DJ y productor va creando su sonido y se acerca a donde quiere llegar.
WS: One of the labels that you are related to is Realm Records, Gorgon City’s label. You have even taken part in the ‘Olympia’ remixes album, with your remix for ‘Body Language’, and this week you are going to the debut in Printworks London, in the closing show of the postponed album tour. How is your relationship with the duo and how do you feel about this important show?
M: I get along with Matt, I met him personally in Ibiza and every time we can, we see each other. I am super happy too because I like electronic music in general but I feel really attracted to songs in which the vocals have a lot of importance like Chris’ music or Gorgon City’s. And step-by-step I’m getting closer to what I want.
Gorgon help me a lot, I’ll be in Printworks this week and also Miami with them, but I’m still assimilating. Everything I say is because I’m really happy, not to show off because everything that is happening right now is really overwhelming. Especially, I’m happy to sign where I’m signing because it is where I wanted to get to since the beginning. I’m not staying in the underground although I like it and play it too. But every DJ or producer creates their own sound and gets closer to whatever they want to be.
WS: Gracias al talento y al esfuerzo, te has convertido en uno de los referentes femeninos del sector de la música electrónica de nuestro país y una de las artistas con más futuro internacional. ¿Cuál es tu visión, tanto desde dentro como consumidora, del status de la mujer actualmente en la música electrónica?
M: Todo lo que te voy a decir es desde mi experiencia. Yo soy una chica muy tímida, cuando me abro soy súper sociable pero al empezar me cuesta. Pues al principio con todo el tema musical en Málaga, yo no sabía como integrarme en círculos de este ambiente, porque mis círculos de amigos y familiares son de todo menos de electrónica, yo soy la oveja negra en ese aspecto.
Me propuse intentar acercarme a fiestas, pedir ayuda a gente pero mira una de las frases que tengo grabadas es que le pedí ayuda a un chico y me contestó “te ayudaré cuando te cases conmigo”. Es verdad que por ser mujer puedes recibir algunas veces peor trato como lo que me pasó a mí, pero no son solo los hombres los que nos dan la espalda o nos ponen la zancadilla, algunas chicas también pueden hacerte daño y supongo que a los chicos les pasará igual, que si una persona no quiere ayudarte da igual que sea hombre o mujer. En mi caso me ha pasado tanto por parte de hombres como por parte de mujeres.
Yo no creo que haya que hacer distinción de género y sobre todo en esta industria, yo soy una artista y lo que importa es la música que creas, porque si cogemos un gran tema y cambiamos el género del artista que lo ha creado no va a cambiar nada sobre el producto final. Es cierto que algunos pueden tener más facilidades que otros y los comentarios como el que te he mencionado me los decían al principio, pero hace muchísimos años.
Tú también tienes que demostrar el tipo de artista que eres, lo que a ti te funciona, tú talento, son muchos factores. Hay muchos más hombres que mujeres es la verdad, pero la razón no la logro saber. Yo soy una chica muy ambiciosa y si me das 50 yo voy a querer 3500 y tal vez sea ese uno de los factores por los que he logrado conseguir esto. Intento defender y demostrar mi talento con mi música dando igual si soy una mujer o un hombre, porque lo importante es que soy una artista.
WS: Thanks to the talent and your hard work, you have become one of the female references in the electronic music sector from our country and one of the artists with the brightest future internationally. What is your vision as a consumer and also as part of the industry of women’s status in electronic music currently?
M: Everything I’m going to say is from my experience. I am a very shy girl but when I open myself I am very sociable, but at first, it is hard. At the beginning in Malaga, I didn’t know how to get myself in these environments because neither my group of friends or my family is electronic, I am the black sheep in that aspect
I told myself that I would try to get to parties, ask people for help but one of the things that I have in my mind since I wanted to get help from a bot was “I will help you when I when you marry me”. It is true that because of being a woman you can sometimes be treated worse, as what happened to me. Tut it is not only men the ones who give us their back it, but also some girls can harm you very badly, and I guess that men will have the same problem. If a person does not want to help you it doesn’t matter whether it’s a man or a woman, in my case it happened from both sides, both from men and women.
I don’t think we have to make a gender distinction, especially in this industry. I’m an artist and the important thing is the music you create because if we take a big track and we change the gender of the artist who created nothing is gonna change about the final product. It is true that some have more ease than others and comments as the one I mentioned, I only heard them at the beginning, but many many years ago,
You also need to show the kind of artist you are, what works for you, your talent… There are many factors. There are many more men than women, that is true but I don’t really know the reason why. I am a very ambitious girl and if you give me 50 I will want 3500 and that might be one of the factors why I was able to get this. I try to defend and show my talent with my music, no matter if I’m a woman or a man because the important thing is that I am an artist.
WS: 2022 ha empezado a lo grande, pero seguro que no acaba aquí y tienes muchas más sorpresas preparadas. ¿Nos puedes desvelar alguna?
M: Lanzamientos puedo confirmar que tengo más de uno en Black Book para este año. 2022 a diferencia de los años anteriores en los que he sacado muchísima música, hemos decidido lanzar menos temas, pero con más calidad y enfocándolo a los eventos para que haya mucho más tirón.
Hay también varios festivales más en la agenda. En Ibiza voy a pinchar este año, tengo varias fechas confirmadas y estoy súper contenta después de tanto tiempo, verme yo arriba es un sueño cumplido y compartir esta alegría con mi círculo más cercano que me ha visto crecer es maravilloso.
También voy a sacar otro lanzamiento en una discográfica muy importante de Estados Unidos que es donde más nos estamos enfocando ya que es donde más tirón tiene mi estilo musical. Estoy muy contenta y me gustaría deciros más cosas pero no puedo desvelar más.
WS: 2022 has started big, but I’m sure this doesn’t end here and that you have many more surprises ready. Can you tell us some of them?
M: I can confirm that I have more than a release in Black Book for this year. In contrast to other years in which I have released a pile of music, we have decided to release less music but with bigger quality and focus it on the events so that we can have a larger reach.
There are some other festivals on the agenda. I am playing in Ibiza this year, some dates are confirmed and I am really glad that, after a long time, I can see myself over there. It is a dream come true and sharing this with my close circle that has seen me grow up is wonderful.
I’m also going to have another release in a very important label from the United States, which is where we are focusing the most given the fact that it is where my style is the most popular. I’m really happy and I would like to tell you more but I cannot do it.

– Dream trip: They were two: one to Japan and the other one to New York. I already was in Japan in 2018 for 15 days and it was amazing. And I think I’ll get New York this year.
– Hidden hobby: I am trying to guess because I don’t think it is normal to spend so much time with music hahaha. But my job and my hobby right now are the same: music
