EL 10 de febrero tuvimos la suerte de poder asistir a un evento de esos que molan, de los que se te quedan guardados durante mucho tiempo. Estuvimos en Bilbao, en la sala Bullshit para no perdernos la bitbird Label Night, donde San Holo, DROELOE y Taska Black nos hicieron pasar una noche para el recuerdo. Y gracias a eso hemos conseguido entrevistar a Taska Black, unos días después para que conozcáis más al talentoso productor belga, que acaba de debutar en Monstercat con su ‘We Would Never Do’.
-Wololo Sound: Lo primero de todo, enhorabuena por tu debut en Monstercat con ‘We Would Never Do’, ¿como surgió la idea de la canción y por qué en Monstercat?
-Taska Black: ¡Gracias! Empecé a construir alrededor de la vocal que Nevve grabó. Cuando puse mis acordes debajo de ella, me sentí bien y todo salió muy natural a partir de ahí. Este es uno de esos temas que salió muy rápido, supongo que es algo bueno. En cuanto a Monstercat, mi equipo ha estado algún tiempo buscando la manera de trabajar con ellos, ¡realmente me alegro de que todo haya funcionado!
-Wololo Sound: First of all, congratulations for your debut on Monstercat with ‘We Would Never Do’, how did the idea of the track and why in Monstercat?
-Taska Black: Thank you! I started building around these vocals that Nevve recorded. When I put my chords underneath them it just felt right and everything came very natural from there. This is one of those records that came together very quickly, I guess that’s usually a good thing. As for Monstercat, my team has been trying to find a way to work with them for sometime now, really glad it all worked out!
-WS: Para los fans que no saben mucho sobre ti, ¿podrías contarnos un poco sobre tu experiencia musical? ¿Cómo acabaste dedicándote a la música? ¿Género e inspiraciones?
-TB: Cuando era pequeño solía escuchar los Red Hot Chili Peppers todo el tiempo. Cuando crecí comencé a entrar en el mundo de la música electrónica, desde house a dubstep y, finalmente, en este género que ahora llamamos future bass. Fui a clases de música desde que tenía 4 años y terminé mis estudios de piano clásico cuando tenía 17 años. Cuando tenía 13 años comencé a producir y todas esas influencias del rock, el dance y la música clásica hicieron que mi música sonara como lo que es hoy.
-WS: For fans who don’t know much about you, could you tell us a bit about your music background? How did you fall down the music hole? Favourite Genre and inspirations?
When I was a kid I used to listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers all the time. When I got older I started getting into dance music, from house to dubstep and eventually this new thing on the come up called future bass. I took music lessons from when I was 4 years old and finished my classical piano studies when I was 17 years old. When I was 13 I started getting into production and I all those rock, dance and classical music influences made my music sound like what it is today.
-WS: Cuando uno piensa en Taska Black, inmediatamente nos viene a la cabeza bitbird y San Holo, ¿qué significan el sello y Sander para ti?
-TB: bitbird es donde todo comenzó para mí. Envié mi primer demo como Taska Black para ellos y terminamos lanzándolo en el sello. Desde mi primer lanzamiento, Sander me ha estado apoyando y ha creído en mí. ¡Aprendí mucho de él en los últimos años y es increíble ser su telonero en su gira por Europa este año!
-WS: When one thinks of Taska Black immediately goes Bitbird and San Holo, what the label and Sander mean for you?
-TB: bitbird is where it all started for me. I sent my first demo as Taska Black to them and we ended up releasing it on the label. Since my first release Sander has been supporting me and has believed in me. I’ve learned alot from him the last couple of years and it’s amazing to be his supporting act on his Europe tour this year!
-WS: En bitbird sois un grupo de productores que hacen las cosas muy bien y sois muy diferentes del resto. ¿Consideras que la escena EDM está saturada?
-TB: Creo que todo está saturado hoy en día principalmente por Internet. Pero no creo que haya nada de malo en eso. Las personas que trabajan duro con un estilo y personalidad distinta siempre tendrán un lugar en la escena, sin importar cuán saturado esté, creo. Todos los que lanzan música en bitbird tienen su propio sonido y personalidad, y creo que eso es lo que más respeta el sello.
-WS: In bitbird you are a group of producers that do things very well and very different from the rest. Do you consider the EDM scene saturated?
-TB: I think everything is saturated nowadays mostly because of the internet. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Hard working people with a distinct style and personality will always have a place in the scene no matter how saturated it is I think. Everyone releasing music with bitbird has their own sound and personality and I believe that’s what bitbird is respected for most.
-WS: La bitbird Label Night en Bilbao fue increíble, Nosotros estuvimos allí y lo pasamos genial, ¿Fue tu primera vez pinchando en nuestro país, no? ¿Como fue la experiencia en España?
-TB: ¡Sí, fue mi primera vez pinchando en España! Desafortunadamente, no tuvimos tiempo suficiente para visitar Bilbao por los vuelos, ¡pero tuvimos la oportunidad de tomar unas tapas deliciosas antes del evento!
-WS: The bitbird Label Night in Bilbao was incredible. We were there and we had an amazing time; It’s your first time playing in our country, right? How about the experience in Spain?
-TB: Yes it was my first time playing a show in Spain! Unfortunately we didn’t have a lot of time to visit Bilbao in between our flights but we did have the chance to eat some delicious tapas before the show!
-WS: Y para terminar, nos gustaría saber que tiene preparado Taska Black para este 2018, ¿Podrías contarnos algo?
-TB: Muchas música nueva, colaboraciones increíbles que todavía no puedo contar y muchos shows, ¡Tengo muchas ganas de pinchar en Bonnaroo y Lollapalooza este año!
–WS: Finally, we would like to know what Taska Black has prepared for this 2018, can you tell us something?
-TB: A lot of new music, exciting collaborations I can’t talk about yet and more shows. I’m also super excited to be playing at Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza this year!
