Entrevistamos a NERVO, uno de los dúos femeninos más importantes de la historia de la electrónica
Tras dar comienzo a nuestra sexta temporada por todo lo alto con las entrevistas de KSHMR y Dirty South, en Wololo Sound ya os avisamos de que lo que se venía era algo grande. Por ello, os traemos una nueva entrevista, esta vez con las hermanas Miriam y Olivia Nervo. Las gemelas australianas, con años de experiencia en la materia, ocupan la posición más alta que una mujer ha conseguido en el Top 100 de DJ Mag -el año pasado, el nº 27-. Conocidas mundialmente por clasicazos como ‘Revolution‘ o ‘Like Home’, junto a DJs como R3HAB o Nicky Romero, las artistas tuvieron mucho que contarnos en su última visita a nuestro país, durante Dreambeach Villaricos.
Entrevista a NERVO:
WOLOLO SOUND: Hola, Mim y Liv. En primer lugar, gracias por darnos la oportunidad de charlar con vosotras. Estamos todos sobrecargados de ternura con vuestros últimos posts en redes sociales porque habéis sido madres de dos preciosas bebés. ¿Considerasteis la idea de dejar vuestra vida de DJs antes de dar a luz? ¿Cómo os las arregláis para combinar la familia y las actuaciones?
NERVO: ¡Muchas gracias!. Estamos perdidamente enamoradas de nuestras pequeñas. No estábamos muy seguras de cuánto de su vida queríamos compartir en redes sociales y todavía estamos en duda, así que lo vamos viendo sobre la marcha. Respondiendo a tu pregunta, no consideramos dejar este estilo de vida pero sí sabíamos que habría una diferencia en nuestros tours una vez tuviésemos bebés. De nuevo, todavía estamos determinando todo esto y, por ahora, viajamos con una niñera a tiempo completo y con nuestra manager – y los dos bebés -; por lo que nuestro equipo de este verano ha sido más grande. De alguna forma, la maternidad nos ha enseñado a priorizar, por lo que cuando trabajamos estamos muy concentradas.
WOLOLO SOUND: Hello, Mim and Liv. First of all, thank you for letting us have a little talk with you. We are all experiencing a cuteness overload with all your recent posts on social media because you are the moms of two gorgeous babies!. Did you consider leaving your DJ-lifestyle before giving birth? How do you manage to combine family and raves?
NERVO: Aww thank you. We are completely besotted with our little girls! We weren’t really sure how much of their lives we wanted to share on social media and we’re still in two minds about it so we’re just kind of feeling it out as we go. To answer your question though, we didn’t consider leaving our DJ lifestyle but we did know it would make a difference to our touring life once having babies. Again, we’re still figuring it all out as we go along and for now we travel with a nanny full time as well as a tour manager (and the two babies) so the 2019 summer crew is bigger. In a weird way motherhood has taught us to prioritize better so when we are working we are very focused.
WOLOLO SOUND: Sois las únicas DJs mujeres que van a pinchar en el Main Stage de Dreambeach. ¿Cómo os hace sentir esto?
NERVO: ¡Es un honor! Esperamos representar bien a todas nuestras compañeras. Hemos trabajado mucho en nuestro set para este verano y tenemos ganas de pinchar canciones nuevas, mash ups, etc. Lo bueno de estar embarazadas al principio de 2019 es que tuvimos mucho tiempo de hacer música, por lo que tenemos un montón de música nueva que va a salir este año. Esto hace nuestros sets más emocionantes.
WOLOLO SOUND: You are the only female DJs who are playing in the Main Stage at Dreambeach. How does that make you feel?
NERVO: Super honoured! I hope we represent our fellow ladies well. We have worked really hard on our set for this summer and are excited about playing so many new records, mash ups etc. One good thing about being pregnant in early 2019 is that we had a lot of time to make music so we have a heap of new music coming out in the year. It makes our sets more exciting.

WOLOLO SOUND: Hoy en día, el feminismo es un tema muy debatido. ¿Habéis notado sus efectos en la escena electrónica? Por ejemplo, ¿creéis que hay más mujeres DJs o que son capaces de ser más populares?
NERVO: La gente con frecuencia nos pregunta cómo es ser una mujer en una industria dominada por hombres y realmente, lo único que podemos decir es que no conocemos otra cosa y que no hay mucho que podamos hacer respecto a ser mujeres; así que tenemos que seguir haciendo la mejor música y pinchando los mejores sets que podemos. La escena es mucho más inclusiva que cuando nosotras comenzamos, así que hemos avanzado mucho. Creemos que el mayor problema actualmente es llamar la atención con música nueva, no cuál es el género del DJ.
WOLOLO SOUND: Nowadays, feminism is a very debatable topic. Have you noticed its effects in the electronic music scene? For example, do you think there are more female DJs or that they are able to become more popular?
NERVO: People often ask us what it’s like being women in a male dominated industry and really, all we can say is we don’t know any different and there is not much we can do about being women so we just have to keep on making the best music and playing the best sets we can. The scene is a lot more accepting of women than when we started so it feels like we have come a long way. We feel like the bigger issue these days is how to break new music, not what gender the DJ is.
WOLOLO SOUND: Tras lanzar ‘Collateral‘, nos dejásteis con las ganas de otro álbum. ¿Produciréis otro álbum o algún EP?, ¿o solo singles?.
NERVO: Estamos contentas por haber hecho un álbum pero al final del día, no creemos que seguir haciendo álbumes sea una necesidad por varias razones: 1) Hay mucha libertad cuando lanzas singles en diferentes sellos y 2) Es mucho más rápido si te centras en unos cuantos singles a la vez en comparación con un álbum entero. Eso no quiere decir que no vayamos a lanzar un álbum nunca más, pero no es nuestra prioridad ahora mismo. Tenemos un single (‘Illusion‘), que salió el 30 de agosto y que presentamos en Spinnin’, y una colaboración con Paris Hilton y Tinie Tempah que saldrá dentro de poco.
WOLOLO SOUND: After releasing ‘Collateral’ you left us willing for another album. Will you produce another album or EP? Or only singles?
NERVO: We are happy we made an album but at the end of the day we don’t feel it’s imperative to keep making albums for a few reasons 1) there is a lot of freedom releasing singles on different labels and 2) it’s much more immediate to focus on a few singles at a time vs an entire album. That’s not to say we won’t ever release another album but it just isn’t the priority right now. We have a single ( “Illusion” ) out August 30th which we are really happy with coming out through Spinnin and a collab with Paris Hilton and Tinie Tempah coming out shortly after that.
WOLOLO SOUND: Hemos escuchado ‘Faded’ de ZHU en algunos de vuestros sets, pero con un toque diferente. ¿Tenemos nueva música en camino?
NERVO: Nos alegramos de que os hayáis dado cuenta de ‘Faded‘. Éramos super fans de esa canción y estamos muy felices con nuestra versión. Retocamos la letra, escribimos más partes y añadimos una instrumental completamente nueva con un montón de energía; y ha tenido buena reacción en nuestros sets. Saldrá a través de Spinnin’ antes de que acabe el año.
WOLOLO SOUND: We’ve heard the track ‘Faded’ by ZHU in some of your sets, but with a different taste. Do we have more music incoming?
NERVO: Glad you noticed Faded – we were such a massive fan of that record and we’re really happy with our remake. We recut the vocals, wrote some more sections and a completely new instrumental with heaps of energy and it’s been getting a great reaction in our sets. It will be coming out through Spinnin before the end of the year

WOLOLO SOUND: Otra pregunta sobre vuestros sets. Habéis estado pinchando más canciones de psytrance últimamente. ¿Habéis pensado en producir un track de este subgénero?
NERVO: ¡Sí! De hecho, ‘Faded’ es una producción de psytrance. Nos encantan los bpm más altos y la energía que le da a nuestro set. Hemos estado pinchando más psytrance en estos últimos años por lo que nos ha llevado algo de tiempo hacer esta canción, pero estamos muy ilusionadas con ella.
WOLOLO SOUND: Another question about your sets. You’ve been playing more psytrance songs lately. Have you thought about producing a track of this subgenre?
NERVO: Yes! Actually, ‘Faded’ is a psy trance production. We love the higher BPM and the energy it brings to our set. We’ve been playing some psy trance records in our set for the last couple of years so it took us a while to make the record but we’re super psyched about it!
WOLOLO SOUND: Para terminar, nos gustaría que respondieseis unas preguntas cortas. ¿Qué es lo más atrevido que un fan ha hecho por vosotras?
NERVO: Nos han traído ropa de bebé y regalos a nuestros shows. Nos han inundado con preciosos detalles, mensajes, carteles… ¡El apoyo ha sido increíble!
WOLOLO SOUND: Finally, we want you to answer some short questions. What’s the sassiest thing that a fan has ever done for you?
NERVO: Brought baby clothes and presents to our shows. We’ve been inundated with such gorgeous gifts, messages, signs.. The support has really been incredible !
WOLOLO SOUND: ¿Algún ritual o hábito que tengáis antes de un set?
NERVO: Siempre revisamos el principio y el final de nuestro set, nos aseguramos de que tenemos un USB de reserva y una bebida fría.
WOLOLO SOUND: Any rituals or habits that you do before a set?
NERVO: We always go through the beginning and the end of our set, make sure we have a back up USB and a cold drink on the side.
