Es uno de los artistas de moda del panorama rawstyle este año y, tras poder charlar con él en profundidad sobre su hit viral ‘Activation’ hace unos meses, hemos tenido la oportunidad de hablar más detenidamente sobre sus proyectos futuros, sus highlights este 2023 ¡y mucho más! Estamos hablando de Aversion, ¡vamos allá!
Wololo Sound – ¡Hola Robin! Estamos encantados de tenerte en nuestro medio para esta entrevista. ¿Qué tal te va todo?
Aversion – ¡Hola! Siempre es un placer charlar con vosotros, chicos. ¡Me va genial! Más ocupado que nunca pero no me puedo quejar 🙂

Aversion – Hey, it’s always a pleasure talking with you guys, I am doing amazing! Busier than ever before but I really can’t complain 🙂
WS – Nos gustaría comenzar preguntándote por tus inicios. ¿Cómo comenzó Aversion su relación con la música hard?
A – Mi tío (Jeroen) fue el que nos introdujo a mi hermano mayor Danny y a mí en el hardstyle/hardcore. Hace años nos daba CD’s que él tenía muy quemados con música que se encontraba en internet y nos enamoramos instantáneamente.
WS – We would like to start by asking you about your beginnings. How did Aversion start his relationship with hard dance music?
A – My uncle (Jeroen) actually introduced my older brother Danny and I to hardstyle/hardcore! Back in the days he would give us CD’s he burned with music he found online and we instantly fell in love!
WS – Ya te hicimos un Q&A sobre tu gran hit ‘Activation’ hace unos meses. Desde entonces, el tema no ha dejado de ser más y más popular y ya cuenta con 5 millones de reproducciones en Spotify. Además, ha sido apoyada por artistas enormes en la escena electrónica. ¿Qué piensas cuando miras atrás al momento en que creaste la canción y la presentaste por primera vez? ¿Cuál crees que es la clave para que el tema se haya vuelto tan viral?
A – Honestamente no sé cómo sentirme al respecto jaja, hice el tema en un par de horas el día antes de Shockerz y JAMÁS hubiese predicho que iba a funcionarme tan bien. ¡Estoy eternamente agradecido por todo el apoyo que he recibido por ello! Todos sabemos cuál es la clave en ‘Activation’… 😉 (TU TU TU TU’s).
WS – We already did a Q&A about your big hit ‘Activation’ some months ago. Since then, the track hasn’t stopped being more and more popular and it counts with 5 million plays on Spotify already. In addition, it has been played by several big names in the electronic music industry. What do you think when you look back at the time when you made the track and played it for the first time? What do you think has been the key for the track becoming so viral?
A – I honestly don’t know how to feel about it haha, I made the track in a couple of hours the day before Shockerz and I would’ve NEVER anticipated that it would do so much for me. I am eternally grateful for all the support I’ve received because of it! We all know what the key is to ‘Activation’… 😉 (aggressively TU TU TU TU’s).
WS – Este año has presentado trabajos con grandes nombres en la escena como Phuture Noize, KELTEK, Imperatorz, Unresolved o Thyron. Nos gustaría preguntarte por ‘Revolution’, tu trabajo con el primero de ellos. ¿Cómo surgió esta colaboración? ¿Qué sientes al haber colaborado con una leyenda del hardstyle como es Marco?
A – ¡Aún sigo en shock de que esto ha pasado de verdad! Conocí a Marco en REBiRTH el año pasado y básicamente me tiró la ficha sobre trabajar juntos invitándome a casa. Tras Intents me llamó con una idea que tenía así que empezamos a trabajar. He aprendido mucho de esta collab y estoy súper orgulloso de la mezcla de nuestros estilos. Marco y yo tenemos una gran conexión dentro y fuera del estudio y espero que esta no sea la última vez que pueda trabajar con él.
WS – This year you have released your works with several big names in the industry such as Phuture Noize, KELTEK, Imperatorz, Unresolved or Thyron. We would like to ask you about ‘Revolution’, your collab with the first of them. How did this collab come up? What do you feel about having worked with a true legend of hardstyle such as Marco?
A – I’m still shocked this actually happened! I met Marco at REBiRTH last year where he basically hinted at working together, inviting me to come and jam at his place. After Intents he called me with an idea he had for a setup and so we started working! I’ve learned so much from this collab and I’m super proud of the blend of both our styles. Marco and I have a great connection both in and out the studio and I hope it won’t be the last time I get to work with him!
WS – Aunque la lista de collabs que has lanzado este año es muy larga, también conocemos ID’s tuyas con otros artistas como Adjuzt y Mutilator (‘Devastation’) y Dual Damage (‘XTINCTION’). ¿Verán la luz pronto estas canciones? ¿Cómo decidiste trabajar con ellos? ¿Tienes alguna colaboración más en el horizonte que nos puedas contar?
A – ¡Ambas colaboraciones surgieron con Intents Festival! Este año pinché mi primer B2B con los chicos de Dual Damage así que una collab se sintió muy natural. Lo mismo pasó con el B2B2B con Bram (Mutilator) y Maikel (Adjuzt) en el mainstage. Queríamos hacer algo especial y ya que no ves muchas triples collabs en nuestra escena, pensamos que molaría mucho hacer algo los 3 juntos.
¡Estamos trabajando muy duro para que ambas salgan cuanto antes! Estamos muy ocupados últimamente así que el planning puede llegar a ser una pesadilla pero os aseguro ¡QUE SE VIENEN! 😀
WS – Although your 2023 collabs list is really long, we also know some other ID’s with some artists such as Adjuzt and Mutilator (‘Devastation’) and Dual Damage (‘XTINCTION’). Will these tracks be released soon? How did you decided to work with them? Do you have any more collabs on the horizon that you can tell us about?
A – Both of these collabs actually started with Intents Festival! This year I played the first ever B2B with the Dual Damage boys so a collab felt only natural to do. Same thing with the B2B2B with Bram (Mutilator) and Maikel (Adjuzt) on the mainstage. We wanted to do something special and since you don’t see a lot of triple collab tracks in our scene we felt it would be super dope to make something with the 3 of us!
We are working really hard to get both released as soon as possible! We are all super busy nowadays so planning can be quite a nightmare for all of us but rest assured, THEY ARE COMING! 😀
WS – Este año has podido actuar en los festivales de hard más importantes del planeta: desde un B2B con Adjuzt y Mutilator que quitó el aliento a todo el público en Intents Festival hasta abrir un BLUE Stage lleno a reventar el sábado en Defqon.1, incluyendo un show increíble en Knockout Outdoor en Australia, entre otros. ¿Cuáles son tus mejores recuerdos de esta temporada de festivales? ¿Cómo te sientes cuando ves a miles de personas en tus sets dándolo todo mientras pones tus canciones?
A – Sinceramente, a veces es demasiado para poder entenderlo, poder pinchar toda mi música alrededor del mundo para los fans más entregados es una locura. Los highlights que se me vienen a la cabeza son 100% abrir el BLUE Stage en Defqon.1, actuar delante del público más ruidoso que he visto jamás en Knockout Outdoor (lo cual me hizo llorar después de mi set jaja), unirme a Marco (Phuture Noize) en el mainstage de Defqon.1 para presentar nuestro tema ‘Revolution’ y, por supuesto, destrozar el mainstage de Intents con LOS CHAVALES (Adjuzt y Mutilator) por primera vez. Pero han pasado muchas cosas y es difícil recordar jaja.
WS – This year you have been able to perform in the most important hard dance festivals in the world: from a breathtaking B2B with Adjuzt and Mutilator at Intents Festival to opening a fully packed BLUE Stage on Saturday at Defqon.1, along with a great performance at Knockout Outdoor in Australia, among many others. What are your best memories from this festival season? How do you feel when you see thousands of people standing at your sets, giving their all while you are playing your tracks?
A – It’s honestly too much to comprehend at times, being able to play my music all over the world to the most dedicated people is just unreal. My personal highlights I remember from the top of my head are 100%: opening the BLUE at Defqon.1, playing for the loudest crowd I have ever seen at Knockout Outdoor (which legit made me cry after my set haha), joining Marco (Phuture Noize) on the Defqon.1 mainstage to premiere our track ‘Revolution’ and of course wrecking the Intents mainstage with DA BOYZ (Adjuzt and Mutilator) for the first time! But so much has happened it’s hard to remember everything haha!
WS – Durante la pasada edición de Elektrum Festival presentaste por primera vez tu himno para Shockerz, que se llamará ‘Reflected Reality’. Este es tu primer himno para un gran festival, así que en primer lugar, ¡enhorabuena! ¿Qué pensaste cuando supiste que Shockerz había pensado en ti para realizarlo? ¿Crees que es una buena forma de cerrar el círculo, ya que justo el año pasado presentaste ‘Activation’ en ese mismo festival?
A – ¡Muchas gracias, lo aprecio mucho! Para ser totalmente sincero con vosotros, estaba muy nervioso jaja. No todos los días te brindan una oportunidad como esta y siento que hemos cerrado el círculo, ¡lo cual es increíble! Creo que es hora de daros la fecha de salida oficial del tema también, ¡y se viene antes de lo que pensáis, probablemente! El jueves 23 de noviembre lanzaré ‘Reflected Reality’, el himno de Shockerz 2023 en Theracords, ¡vamos!
WS – During the last edition of Elektrum Festival you premiered for the first time your anthem for Shockerz, called ‘Reflected Reality’. This is your first anthem for a major event, so first of all, congratulations! What did you think when you knew Shockerz was thinking about you for making the anthem? Do you think it is a good way to close the circle, since just last year you presented ‘Activation’ at the same festival?
A – Thank you so much, highly appreciated! To be completely honest with you, I felt mainly nervous haha! It’s not every day you get an opportunity like that and it feels like we went full circle now, which is super awesome! Actually, I think it’s time I’m going to give you guys the official release date as well! And it’s coming even quicker than you probably think! Thursday the 23rd of November I’m releasing ‘Reflected Reality (Shockerz 2023 Anthem)’ on Theracords! LFG!
WS – Últimamente tu carrera está ascendiendo muy rápido, lo cual suponemos significa también un aumento del estrés como artista. ¿En qué ha cambiado tu vida este último año? ¿Te cuesta adaptarte a los cambios?
A – Que me cueste no es probablemente la palabra correcta, pero puede sobrepasarme a veces ahora que tengo tantas puertas abiertas. Muchas de las cosas de las que puedo formar parte son cosas que jamás habría soñado y como significa tanto para mí, eso me hace tener las expectativas altas y presionarme mucho a mí mismo, lo cual puede ser muy estresante. Pero de nuevo, no quiero quejarme, estoy viviendo un sueño y no cambiaría nada 😀
WS – Lately your career is rising in a really fast way, which we suppose it’s translated into a bigger stress for you as an artist. In which way has your life changed the last year? Do you find it difficult to adapt to changes?
A – Difficult maybe isn’t the right word, but it can definitely be overwhelming at times now that so many doors open for me. A lot of the things I’m able to be a part of are things I could’ve never dreamed of and because it means so much to me it brings a high expectation and a lot of pressure from myself, which can be quite stressful! But again, I don’t want to complain, I am living the dream and I wouldn’t have it any other way! 😀
WS- ¿Cuáles son los sueños que te quedan por cumplir aún?
A – ¡Muchos! Están altos en mi lista hacer un álbum y, algún día, organizar mi evento propio en un gran recinto.
WS – Do you have any dreams yet to be fulfilled?
A – Too many to name, but high on my bucketlist is definitely making an album and one day making my own Aversion event in a big venue!
WS – Por último, te queremos pedir algún consejo para ayudar a algún DJ o productor que esté comenzando.
A – Diría:
– Una carrera artística larga y duradera no es un sprint, sino una maratón.
– Piensa en qué esperas conseguir y toma tus decisiones en base a eso.
– No hay reglas en la música: ¡si suena genial, es genial!
WS – We would like to end by asking you for some tips to any DJ or producer who is starting his career.
A – I would say:
– A long lasting artist career is never a sprint but always marathon.
– Make sure to think really hard about what it is you hope to achieve and make your decisions based on that.
– There are no rules in music: if it sounds dope it is dope!
