Agents Of Time es el proyecto protagonista de nuestra nueva entrevista formado por Andrea Di Ceglie y Luigi Tutolo. Dos hombres venerados en directo y maestros de su sonido en el estudio. Desde que comenzaron su trayectoria juntos como dúo, los italianos han combinado su talento para convertirse en uno de los nombres más seguidos del panorama melódico actual, publicando en múltiples sellos líderes en el camino como Afterlife o Kompakt.
Wololo Sound: ¡Hola Andrea y Luigi! Estamos encantados de teneros como invitados en nuestra sección de entrevistas. Nos gustaría empezar por lo básico, ¿cómo surge Agents Of Time? ¿Cuál es la historia detrás de vuestro nombre artístico?
Agents Of Time: Hola chicos, ¡gracias por recibirnos! Agents Of Time comenzó en 2013, aunque estábamos trabajando en nuestros propios proyectos mucho antes de AOT. Éramos buenos amigos y comenzamos a hacer música juntos, entonces quisimos ensalzarla con una unión de fuerzas en un grupo con nombre y visión únicos. Esta fue la razón principal de nuestro grupo. El nombre fue sacado de un álbum de un artista que realmente admiramos con el que también colaboramos recientemente llamado “Mathew Jonson”.
Wololo Sound: Hello Andrea and Luigi! We are beyond delighted to have you as our guests in our interview section. We would like to start with the basics. How was Agents Of Time born? What is the story behind your stage name?
Agents Of Time: Hi guys, thanks for having us! Agents Of Time started in 2013 , we were working on our own projects way before then AOT. We were good friends and we started making music together , then we tout about joining the forces into a group with a unique name and vision. This was the main reason behind our group. The name was taken from an album of an artist that we truly admire with whom we also collaborate recently called “Mathew Jonson”.
WS: Trabajar codo con codo a todas horas en el estudio con otra persona no es algo fácil para todos los productores. ¿Cómo es llevar vuestra carrera hacia delante con un vínculo como este? ¿Qué diríais que aportáis cada uno de vosotros al concepto Agents Of Time?
AOT: Trabajar con otra persona no es nada sencillo, especialmente cuando se trata de algo relacionado con un concepto artístico. La razón es que cada persona quiere que su idea sea la que todos persiguen. Creemos que el secreto para seguir creciendo como proyecto musical es aprender cuándo es el momento de escuchar el pensamiento o la idea del otro. Detrás de ello puede estar la clave del éxito de una banda o de un equipo. Conocemos exactamente qué es lo mejor y lo menos bueno de nuestro trabajo, así que sabemos que lo que traemos con AOT será siempre especial, al menos para nosotros y esperamos que para todos nuestros fans.
WS: Working side by side all the time in the studio with another person is not an easy thing for all producers. What is it like to take your career forward with such a bond? What would you say each of you bring to the Agents Of Time concept?
AOT: Working with another person is not simple at all, especially when there is something related to the concept of art. The reason is that each person wants his idea to be the one everyone is pursuing. We think the secret to keep growing as a musical project is to learn when is time to listen the other thought or idea. Behind it maybe could be the key of the success for a band or a team. We exactly know what we are best and least good in our work so we know what we bring in AOT to be always special, at least for us and hopefully for all our fans.
WS: Hace un tiempo, Agents Of Time estaba formado por tres personas y con su salida os desvinculasteis de Obscura, el sello que fundasteis juntos. ¿os veremos en algún momento estrenando un nuevo sello o no os interesa ahora mismo?
AOT: Por supuesto que fue una buena experiencia, pero nuestro proyecto personal es ir a saco y fundar un nuevo sello discográfico el año que viene. Lamentablemente no podemos decir nada más al respecto porque es un proyecto tan lleno de novedades que queremos que lo disfrutéis todo de golpe.
WS: Some time ago, Agents Of Time was formed by three people and with his departure you disassociated from Obscura, the label you founded together. Will we see you at some point creating a new label or are you not interested right now?
AOT: For sure it was a good experience, but our personal project is to go ahead and found a new record label next year. We sadly can’t say nothing more about it because is a project so full of news that we want you to enjoy it all at once!
WS: En el mes de marzo lanzasteis vuestro EP ‘Prince Of The Stars’ a través de Rumors Records. ¿Cómo fue el proceso de producción? ¿Qué diríais que fue lo más especial de este estreno en el sello de Guy Gerber?
AOT: ‘Prince Of The Stars’ EP para nosotros fue de verdad una meticulosa experiencia de crecimiento musical. Tardamos unos meses en conseguir lo que teníamos en mente y el resultado para nosotros fue buenísimo porque realmente pusimos nuestros sentimientos en la música. Teniendo en cuenta que lanzamos el EP en el gran sello de Guy Gerber, para nosotros fue un verdadero paso adelante, un conocimiento aún mayor de hacia dónde podemos ir musicalmente a partir de ahora.
WS: In March you released your EP ‘Prince Of The Stars’ on Rumors Records. How was the production process? What would you say was the most special thing about this release on Guy Gerber’s label?
AOT: Prince Of The Stars EP for us was really a meticulous experience of musical growth. We took few months to obtain what we had in mind and the result for us is great because we really put our feelings into the music. Considering that we released the Ep on the great Guy Gerber’s label, for us was a truly step forward, an even greater awareness of where we can musically go from now on!
WS: Este anterior lanzamiento fue vuestro primer estreno del año, llegando ‘Nightlife’ en el mes de junio. ¿Cómo definiríais vuestro año 2021? ¿Se acerca nueva música en 2022? ¿Algo que adelantar?
AOT: A pesar de que el mundo todavía está afectado por el covid y, por supuesto, el ocio nocturno aún no ha vuelto en todo el mundo, hemos tenido un año increíble viajando de aquí para allá. Nos encanta recordar la gira por Estados Unidos y México en mayo y un montón de bolos inolvidables en Europa. En cuanto a la música, fue un año fructífero, teniendo en cuenta que pasamos la mayor parte del año en el estudio preparando nuestro nuevo álbum, que saldrá a la venta el año que viene. Así que decidimos no sacar tanto material, sino un número justo de temas. Un gran proyecto detrás del álbum comenzará en los primeros meses de 2022. ¡Así que estad preparados!
WS: This previous release was your first one of the year, with ‘Nightlife’ arriving in June. How would you define your 2021? Any new music coming in 2022? Anything you can hint us about?
AOT: In spite of the world is still afflicted by the Covid and of course the nightlife is not yet started everywhere around the world, we had an amazing year traveling here and there. We lovely remember the USA and Mexico tour around May and a lot of memorable gigs in Europe. Music wise was a profitable year considering that we spent most of the year close in the studio making our new album that we’ll release next year. So we decided to don’t put out so many material but just a right number of tracks. A great project behind the album will start in the first months of 2022. So be ready!
WS: También habéis establecido vuestro sonido en el cada vez más aclamado Afterlife a través de creaciones como ‘Midnight Drive In Santiago’ o ‘Forest Of Life’. ¿Cómo surgió la conexión con la discográfica de Tale Of Us? ¿Podemos esperar algo más de vosotros en ella? ¿En qué labels os gustaría lanzar vuestra música en el futuro?
AOT: La conexión con TOU comenzó espontáneamente a lo largo del año y estamos contentos de haber publicado nuestros EP’s en su sello Afterlife. Nuestro próximo lanzamiento en AL está planeado para febrero de 2022 y no podemos esperar para compartirlo con todos nuestros fans de todo el mundo.
WS: You have also established your sound on the increasingly acclaimed Afterlife through creations like ‘Midnight Drive In Santiago’ or ‘Forest Of Life’. How did the connection with Tale Of Us’ label come about? Can we expect more from you on it? On which labels would you like to release your music in the future?
AOT: The connection with TOU started spontaneously over the year and we are glad to have release our Ep’s on their Afterlife record label. Our next release on AL is planned for February 2022 and we really can’t wait to share it with all our fans around the world.
WS: Habéis visitado nuestro país en reiteradas ocasiones, expandiendo vuestro sonido entre nuestros públicos y dejando marca en grandes salas como Metro Dance Club. ¿Cómo ha sido vuestra experiencia en general en España? ¿Cómo fue vuestro set en Metro?
AOT: Pinchar en Metro Dance Club y en España en general para nosotros es un placer cada vez que vamos. El público reacciona siempre bien y para nosotros es muy fácil compartir con la gente lo que sentimos a través de la música. ¡Para esta vez esperamos un club hasta los topes y listo para saltar y bailar todos juntos!
WS: You have visited our country several times, expanding your music among our audiences and leaving your mark in big venues like Metro Dance Club. How has been your experience in general in Spain? How was your set in Metro?
AOT: Playing at Metro Dance Club and in Spain in general for us is such a pleasure every time. The crowd reacts always in the good way and for us is very easy to share with the people our what we feel inside through the music. For this time we expect a club busy and ready to jump and dance all together!
WS: Como referentes internacionales que sois, ¿cómo analizáis el ascenso del melodic techno en los últimos años? ¿Hacia dónde creéis que se dirige el movimiento? ¿Qué artistas podrían dar el salto en los próximos años?
AOT: El techno en general se está haciendo muy popular en todo el mundo. Pero sin duda el techno melódico es ese tipo de género musical que está creciendo muy rápido. La gente disfruta mucho volando con sus melodías y siguiendo el ritmo de la percusión. Creemos que en los próximos años habrá una explosión aún mayor de techno melódico y seguro que nacerán muchos nuevos perfiles de artistas techno.
WS: As international references, how do you analyse the rise of melodic techno in the last few years? Where do you think the genre is heading and which artists could make the leap in the next few years?
AOT: Techno in general is becoming very popular around the world. But for sure Melodic Techno is that kind of musical genre that is growing very fast. People really like flying with melodies and follow the rhythm of the drums.We think in the next years there will be an even greater explosion of melodic techno and for sure there will be the born of many and many newest techno artist profile.
WS: Con el paso del tiempo, se observa en el público una cierta preferencia por los ritmos más rápidos y contundentes. ¿Consideráis que en el movimiento del melodic techno también está pasando?
AOT: No creemos que sea así, cada artista está haciendo su propio material lo mejor que puede y realmente pensamos que la gente siempre vendrá a ver los shows en función de cuáles son sus artistas favoritos. No hay BPM correctos o mejores, ¡sólo hay buena música!
WS: As time goes by, there is a certain preference among the audience for faster and harder beats. Do you think this is also happening in the melodic techno wave?
AOT: We don’t think so , each one of artist is doing his own stuff at his best and we truly think that people will always come to see shows based on what are their favorite artists. There’s no right or cool BPM there’s just the good music!
WS: Por último, nos gustaría que echaseis la vista hacia atrás y hacia delante. ¿Cuál es el mejor recuerdo que tenéis juntos como artistas? ¿Qué es lo que más ilusión os haría conseguir juntos en el futuro?
AOT: Antes de compartir una formación musical, Andrea y yo somos verdaderos amigos que comparten momentos de la vida fuera de lo laboral. Tenemos muchas experiencias bien grabadas en nuestra mente, pero sin duda el mejor recuerdo es la gira asiática en enero de 2020 (justo antes de que ocurriera lo del covid) y más concretamente en Japón. Fuimos turistas durante una semana y disfrutamos plenamente de la cultura japonesa como si fuéramos niños comiendo chucherías.
WS: Finally, we would like you to look back and to look ahead: What is the best memory you have together as artists? What would be the most exciting thing for you to achieve together in the future?
AOT: Before sharing a musical act, me and Andrea are true friends who share moments of extra work life. We had so many experience well printed in our mind, but for sure the best memory is the Asian tour in January 2020 (just before Covid happened) and most precisely in Japan. We were tourist for a week and we fully enjoyed the Japanese culture like children having sweets!
