Uno de los pioneros de dos de los estilos más en auge del espectro electrónico actual. El creador de la discográfica referente Scantraxx. Más de treinta años de oro en forma de música que le ha dado forma a lo que hoy conocemos como hardstyle y hardcore. Dov J. Elkabas aka DJ The Prophet es una de las figuras a las que más le deben los amantes de los +150BPM. El testigo de la era Thunderdome, del nacimiento y evolución de los harder styles, se sienta hoy con nosotros en esta entrevista exclusiva tras el reciente anuncio de su retirada ¿Quieres conocer más a el profeta?
Wololo Sound: Hola Dov! Es un placer para el equipo el poder contar para esta entrevista con el ‘padrino del hardstyle’. El camino hasta conseguir esa posición no debió ser nada fácil ¿Cómo resumirías el paso de ser uno más a ser el gran The Prophet? ¿Qué destacarías de tu brillante carrera?
The Prophet: Hola, encantado de conoceros. La vida nunca es fácil para nadie, ¿verdad? Jajajaja.
Hay muchos momentos destacados en mi carrera, como el de The Dreamteam. El comienzo de toda la era del hardcore, ¡fue algo de otro mundo, por supuesto! Nació un sonido totalmente nuevo y fresco. Nadie sabía lo que se avecinaba, así que nosotros, como artistas principiantes, podíamos hacer lo que quisiéramos.
Lo mismo ocurrió a principios de los 2000 con los sonidos frescos del hardstyle. Todo lo que hicimos no se había hecho nunca antes, así que teníamos todo un mundo nuevo frente a nosotros, ¡es algo increíble de experimentar!
Wololo Sound: Hello Dov! It’s a real pleasure for Wololo Sound to have the ‘godfather of hardstyle’ for this interview. The path to get to that position must not have been easy. How would you sum up the step from being just one more to being the great The Prophet? What would you highlight of your brilliant career?
The Prophet: Helloooo, nice to e-meet you! Life is never easy for anybody right? Hahahaha!
There are many highlights in my career, like with The Dreamteam. The beginning of the whole Hardcore era, that was something out of this world of course! A whole new and fresh sound was born. Nobody knew what they were waiting for so we as beginning stage Artists could do whatwever we wanted!
About the same happened again in the early 2000’s with the fresh sound of Hardstyle; everything we did was never done before so we had a whole new world in front of us, that is something amazing to experience!
WS: Fuiste parte de la generación Thunderdome y de su legendario ‘The Dreamteam’ ¿Cómo viviste aquellos gloriosos años?
TP: Esos días fueron increíblemente educativos para mí. Allí descubrí mundo, música, gente, colegas, etc. También me enseñó lo que más me gustaba en términos de música; ¡La cara más dura de la moneda!
WS: You were part of the Thunderdome generation and its legendary ‘The Dreamteam’. How did you live those glorious years?
TP: Those days were incredible educational for me, there I discovered the world, the music, people, colleagues, etc. It also showed me what I liked best if we think of music; The harder side of the coin!
WS: ¿Consideras que hoy en día sería posible el surgimiento de un movimiento de tal calibre?
TP: ¡Sí! Todo es posible desde mi punto de vista, pero tiene que manifestarse a través de la gente.
WS: Do you think it would be possible for a movement of such calibre to emerge today?
TP: Yes! Everything is possible from my point of view, but it has to be manifested throughout the people.
WS: Echando la vista hacia atrás, tantos shows, canciones y personas que has conocido ¿serías capaz de compartir con nosotros alguna anécdota que te haya marcado?
TP: Alguien me dijo una vez: ‘Sin tu música no puedo ser feliz’. Esa es una de las cosas más importantes que me han dicho. ¿Y sabéis por qué? Porque, como todo el mundo, yo también puedo sentirme inseguro. Y cada canción que creo puede volver a darme esa sensación de pensar “¿les gustará tanto como a mí?”.
Así que cuando alguien te dice que lo que creas es bueno, es muy valioso para mí y me hace increíblemente feliz.
WS: Looking back, so many shows, songs and people you have met, would you be able to share with us any anecdote that has really marked you?
TP: Someone once said: ‘Without your music I cannot be happy. That is one of the most important things anybody ever said to me. And you know why? Because like everybody else in the world, I can be insecure too. And every song I create can give me that feeling again to think ‘Will they like the song as much as I do?’
So when someone tells you that whatever you create is good, that is very valuable to me and that makes me incredibly happy.
WS: Siendo una persona con tanto recorrido y con tanto vivido, nos pica la curiosidad por saber realmente ¿Cuál es tu visión sobre la escena de hoy? ¿Hacia dónde nos dirigimos?
TP: El camino de la música siempre es difícil de predecir. Aunque tengo la sensación de que vamos hacia un tipo de música multigénero, ya que muchos estilos se mezclan entre sí y eso le gusta a la gente.
Así que, ¡no puedo esperar a ver lo que se viene!.
WS: Being a person with such a long career and so much experience, we are curious to know, what is your vision of today’s scene? Where are we heading?
TP: The path of music is always hard to predict. Although, I have the feeling we are going toward a multi-genre kind of music style, many styles are already mixed into each other and people like that.
So I cannot wait to see what happens next!
WS: Con tu carrera ya consolidada, tomaste la decisión de crear Scantraxx, sello que marcaría la historia del hardstyle para siempre ¿Qué crees que lo hace diferente de otras discográficas? ¿Qué podemos esperar de esta gran familia en los próximos meses?
TP: Scantraxx es, sin duda, diferente a todos los demás sellos, ya que tratamos de ser 2 cosas: Una base fiable y segura para los grandes artistas.
También somos su socio en términos de negocio musical y a través de una estrategia digital apoyamos a nuestros artistas en esta área lo mejor posible compartiendo conocimientos y analizando el rendimiento online. Y trabajamos con un grupo selecto de artistas a los que apoyamos en todas las áreas e invertimos en ellos para que saquen el máximo partido a sus capacidades.
WS: With your career already consolidated, you made the decision of creating Scantraxx, a label that would mark the history of hardstyle forever. What do you think makes it different from other labels? What can we expect from this great family in the coming months?
TP: Scantraxx is definitely different than all other labels as we try to be 2 things: A reliable and safe homebase for the big Artists.
We are also a partner in music businesses and through a digital strategy we support our Artists in this area as best as possible by sharing knowledge and analysing online performance. And we work with a select group of Artists that we support in all areas and invest in them to get the most out of their abilities.
WS: ¿Hay algún artista o artistas en concreto sobre los que tengas grandes esperanzas de éxito o cuyo sonido despunte?
TP: Con todos los artistas de Scantraxx tengo muchas esperanzas, si no, no trabajaríamos con ellos, ¡jajaja! Dales una escucha si te atreves. 😉
WS: Is there a particular artist or artists that you have high hopes for or whose sound you think will stand out?
TP: For all of the Scantraxx Artists I have high hopes, or else we wouldn’t work with them, hahahaha! Have a quick listen to them if you dare. 😉
WS: Muy recientemente has anunciado tu proyecto de despedida ‘From The Hard’, sobre el que escribimos hace poco ¿Qué detalles nos puedes dar sobre el mismo? ¿Alguna pista sobre las esperadas colaboraciones que saldrán a la luz?
TP: Vendrán collabs con artistas con los que nunca he trabajado, así que si el lector conoce mi música del pasado, puede rellenar los huecos por sí mismo. 😇
WS: You have very recently announced your farewell project ‘From The Hard’, which we wrote about recently. What details can you give us about it? Any hint about the expected collaborations that will be released?
TP: There will come collabs with Artists I have never worked with, so if the reader knows my music from the past, they can fill in the gaps for them self. 😇
WS: ¿Cómo afrontas esta nueva etapa de tu vida?
TP: Con alegría, tensión, felicidad, culpa, y me da miedo, pero también esperanza.
WS: How do you face this new stage of your life?
TP: With joy, tension, happiness, guilt, and it makes me scared but hopeful.
WS: Finalmente, considerando que pronto dejarás los escenarios, al menos durante un tiempo, ¿Cuál es el verdadero legado que quieres dejar a las nuevas generaciones?
TP: Que hagas lo que hagas, hazlo por ti mismo, recuerda siempre eso. Cuando escuchas a tu corazón siempre tienes la respuesta correcta, después la mente toma el control, y esta puede ser engañosa… En resumen: ¡Cree en ti mismo como yo! (yo no siempre lo he hecho por culpa de mi mente)
WS: Finally, considering that you will soon leave the stages, at least for a while, what is the real legacy you want to leave to the new generations?
TP: That whatever you do, do it for yourself, always remember that. When you listen to your heart you always have the right answer, after that the mind takes over, and the mind can be tricky..Bottomline; Believe in yourself like I do! (which I not always did because of my mind)
