Imagínate que Richie Hawtin y Dubfire se “pelean” por lanzar en su sello tu primer tema, esa es la situación que vivió nuestro siguiente artista, Joran Van Pol. Este DJ holandés ha publicado algunos de sus trabajos en los sellos de los ya mencionados Richie Hawtin y Dubfire además de Rejected, el sello de Joris Voorn. Ahora, Joran van Pol acaba de editar su primer EP por RUKUS, el sello de Matador tras su exitoso remix a ‘Warcall’ hace unos meses.

‘Inmediate’ abre el EP con un bajo distante, pero enérgico mientras que el segundo tema, ‘Captious’ destaca por su incesante línea de bajos. ‘Invert’ por otra parte, logra engancharte al tema gracias a un sonido pegadizo. Para terminar, ‘Absorb’ cierra el EP con un sonido robótico y potente. En resumen, una selección de calidad de sonidos de pista donde Joran muestra su destreza como productor y su reverencia por la música electrónica.

Con motivo de este fantástico lanzamiento, hablamos con Joran Van Pol sobre su nuevo EP ‘Inmediate’ y su futuro próximo como artista:
Wololo Sound: Hola Joran, lo primero de todo, ¿Podrías presentarte para todos aquellos que no te conozcan demasiado? ¿Cómo describirías tu sonido?
Joran: Diría que es un sonido techno con una estetica minimalista. Por lo general tiene un estado de ánimo oscuro y no demasiados elementos. Intento utilizar pocos elementos en mis pistas pero trato realmente hacer brillar cada uno de ellos. Además tener menos elementos en tus canciones deja más espacio a la imaginación.
Wololo Sound: Hello Joran, first of all, can you introduce yourself for those who may not be totally familiar with you – how would you describe your sound?
Joran: I would say it’s techno with a minimalistic aesthetic. It usually has a darker mood and not too many elements. I am a firm believer in using a few less elements in my tracks but really trying to make them shine. Having less elements in your tracks also leaves room for the crowd’s imagination.
Wololo Sound: Has lanzado temas en algunos de los mejores sellos del mundo como RUKUS, Minus, SCI+TEC, Rejected… pero también tienes tu propio sello FADE. ¿Cuál es la diferencia para ti entre un lanzamiento en tu propio sello y otros sellos? ¿Tratas estos lanzamientos de manera diferente?
Joran: Cuando trabajo en el estudio no hay diferencia entre temas, simplemente intento ser creativo y hacer canciones buenas. FADE es una manera para mi para lanzar música que siento que me gusta rápidamente. Intento buscar el balance entre editar en mi propio sello y otros sellos. La manera en la que escojo si editar en otro sello o el mío básicamente se decide por el tiempo que tengo para lanzarlo. Primero vemos que temas tengo programados en otros sellos y luego busco espacios para publicar referencias en el mío de por medio.
Wololo Sound: You’ve signed tracks to the best labels in the world like RUKUS, Minus, SCI+TEC, Rejected, but you also have your own label called FADE. What’s the difference for you between a track you would release on your own label or on another label? Do you approach these releases differently?
Joran: When I work in the studio there is no difference, I just try and get in the creative mood and make cool tracks. FADE is a way for me to release my music quick and when I feel like it. I try to find a healthy balance between releasing on other labels and my own. The way I decide if a track is released somewhere else or on my own label basically comes down to timing. We just see what tracks we have scheduled on other labels and then try to fit some nice releases in between.
Wololo Sound: Tu nuevo ‘Immediate EP’ ha sido lanzado hoy mismo en RUKUS, el sello de Matador. ¿Puedes contarnos un poco la historia de este EP? ¿Como ha sido el proceso de publicarlo?
Joran: Conozco a Matador de cuando ambos publicamos en MINUS así que empezamos a contemplar la idea de que publicara algún lanzamiento por RUKUS así que empecé a trabajar en el estudio y le mandé algunos temas que le podrían gustar. Hubo un par de idas y venidas antes de completar el EP. Las canciones son un poco más “deep” que de costumbre y me gusta mostrar esta faceta mía en este lanzamiento.
Wololo Sound: Your new EP called ‘Immediate’ is going to be released by RUKUS, the label of Matador. Can you tell us a little more about the EP? The process behind making the tracks, how the release came about etc.
Joran: I’ve known Matador from when we both started at MINUS, and we started playing with the idea that it would be cool for me to do a release on RUKUS. So I started working in the studio as usual and sent him a few tracks I thought he would like. We went back and forth a few times like this until we had the EP complete. The tracks are a bit on the deep side compared to my other ones, and I like that I get to show that side with this release.
Wololo Sound: ¿Cual ha sido la reacción del público cuando has pinchado los temas de este EP en tus sets? ¿Cual de ellas pone realmente a la multitul de pié?
Joran: La reacción del publico ha sido genial. Ví un video el otro día de Dubfire pinchando ‘Inmediate’ a unos 130 BPMs lo que hizo que la pista lo sintiera diferente y funcionó. No podría escoger una y es por eso por lo que siento este EP tan fuerte, es una gran diversidad de canciones y sensaciones
Wololo Sound: What is the feedback from the crowd when you play this EP in your sets? Is there a certain track that really brings a crowd to its feet?
Joran: The crowd reaction has been great. I also saw a video the other day of Dubfire playing ‘Immediate’ at 130 BPM or so, that made the track feel so different but it really worked. I can’t say there’s one track that stands out for me. That’s what I feel makes this EP so strong, it is a nice diversity of tracks and vibes.
Wololo Sound: Después de este lanzamiento, ¿tienes algún otro en proceso? ¿Cuál es el siguiente que tienes programado?
Joran: En termino de lanzamientos no puedo revelar demasiado todavía pero se vienen buenos temas. Estoy también trabajando en una versión actualizada a 2018 de uno de mis primeros lanzamientos pero de momento dejaré que adivinéis que canción será.
Wololo Sound: After this release do you have another one in process? What’s next in your release schedule?
Joran: In terms of releases I can’t reveal too much right now, but there is some good stuff coming. I’ve also been working on one of my earlier releases for a 2018 version, but I’ll let you guess which track that is for now.
Wololo Sound: ¿Donde te podemos ver en los próximos meses? ¿Algún evento pronto en España?
Joran: En termino de bolos he tenido un gran verano con sesiones en Awakenings, Loveland, Mystic Garden y muchos más. Estaré de gira en India a finales de agosto y la cerraré en el ADE. Tengo muchas ganas de pinchar en Dockyard ADE este año. Hay un gran cartel y creo que seremos una de las fiestas más relevantes este año. No tengo nada programado en España pero cuando voy a España siempre es una locura así que me encantaría volver.
Wololo Sound: Where can we see you in the next few months? Any gig soon in Spain?
Joran: In terms of gigs I’ve had a great summer with shows at Awakenings, Loveland, Mystic Garden and a bunch of others. I’m touring India end of August and then we’re already closing in on ADE. Super excited to be playing Dockyard ADE this year. They have a huge lineup this year, so I think it’s going to be the talk of the town this year. No plans for Spain at the moment, but every time I am there it is crazy so I would love to come back!
