Entrevistamos a Bou tras su paso por la sala sevillana Cosmos, y algo menos de un mes antes de su estreno en Dub Elements & Friends
Bou es, sin duda alguna, uno de los artistas que más proyección ha mostrado en los últimos años de la escena drum and bass. Es una de las figuras de este sonido roller que opta por los trombones y las bocinas, y que toma influencias del sonido jungle y jump up. Tras ser elegido como segundo mejor artista revelación de 2019 en los Drum & Bass Arena Awards, Bou plantea un 2020 lleno de nuevos retos y en el que en ningún momento olvidará sus orígenes. WS: Lo primero, gracias Amine por darnos algo de tu tiempo. El 2019 fue increíble para ti, siendo uno de los principales artistas relacionados con el sonido roller. ¿Cómo ha sido para ti?
Bou: Ha sido un viaje tremendo. Hasta ahora ha sido espectacular, poder viajar por el mundo, pinchando drum and bass… ¿Qué más podría pedir? Ahora mismo lo estoy pasando genial, gracias.
WS: First of all, thank you Amine for giving us some of your time. 2019 has been an awesome year for you, becoming one of the main producers related to the roller sound. How has it been for you?
Bou: It has been a wicked jorney. It has been amazing so far, travelling all around the world, playing drum and bass… What more could you ask for? I’m having a great time at the moment, thank you.
WS: Después de varios EPs y singles en 2019 para Souped Up y Critical Music, ¿qué más tienes guardado para 2020?
Bou: Tengo algunas colaboraciones muy gordas por ahí. No puedo decir con quién estoy trabajando ahora, pero hay mucha música que va a salir en Souped Up Recordings, Critical Music, Hospital Records… Estad atentos este 2020, se vienen muchas cosas.
WS: After some EPs and singles in 2019 out in Souped Up and Critical Music, what else do you have in store for 2020?
Bou: I’ve got some big collaborations coming up. I can’t really tell you who I’m working with right now, but there is a lot of more music coming up in Souped Up Recordings, Critical Music, Hospital Records… Just watch out for 2020, I have a lot of things coming up.
WS: ¿Cómo definirías la evolución de tu sonido desde hace tres años hasta ahora?
Bou: Hmmm, la evolución de mi sonido… Creo que se ha mantenido más o menos igual. Lon he orientado más hacia este rollo de roller duro, pero intento mantenerme fresco.
WS: How would you define the evolution of your sound from three years ago until now?
Bou: Hmmm, the evolution of my sound… I think it stayed kind of the same. I have moved onto hard roller kind of stuff but I just try to stay cool.
WS: ¿Qué artistas te han inspirado más estos años en cuanto a tus propias producciones?
Bou: Mis mayores inspiraciones son Serum, Hedex, Voltage, Shy FX… Estos tíos me han inspirado mucho en seguir haciendo música y el estilo que hago a día de hoy.
WS: What artists have inspired you the most these years when it comes to your own productions?
Bou: My biggest inspirations are Serum, Hedex, Voltage, Shy FX… These guys inspired me a lot to carry on making music and the style that I make today.
WS: Hablemos de esta ola del roller. ¿Es un subgénero? ¿Hacia donde crees que irá el sonido de bocina en el 2020?
Bou: No lo sé, es algo libre para todos ahora mismo. Ya veremos hacia donde va, ahora mismo no estoy seguro. El 2020 se lo puede llevar cualquiera. Así que veremos a donde va.
WS: Let’s talk about this roller wave. Is it a sub-genre? Where do you think the foghorn sound will go in 2020?
Bou: I don’t know, it is a free-for-all thing right now. We’ll see where it goes, I’m not sure right now. 2020 is for anyone to take. So let’s see where it goes.
WS: ¿Cómo definirías la escena drum and bass actual? ¿Y que hay de la música que esta saliendo ahora?
Bou: ¡Me encanta lo que está saliendo últimamente! Creo que es increíble, hay muchos artistas nuevos haciendo música fantástica. Así que sí, estoy ansioso por ver que pasa.
WS: How would you define the current drum and bass scene? And what about the music coming out at the moment?
Bou: I love what’s coming out at the moment! I think it’s amazing, there are so many upcomers making fantastic music. So yeah, I’m excited to see what happens.
WS: Teniendo en cuenta todos los productores con los que has colaborado, ¿quién te ha ayudado más? ¿A cuál consideras el más creativo? ¿Con quién te gustaría trabajar?
Bou: Dentro de los artistas con los que he colaborado, creo que Hedex ha sido el que más me ha ayudado en cuanto a redes sociales y trucos en FL Studio, el programa que uso. Igual que Serum, él me ha ayudado mucho en mi carrera. ¡Y no estoy seguro de con quién me gustaría trabajar! La mayoría de la gente con la que me gustaría trabajar, ya lo he hecho, así que…
WS: Out of all the producers you have collaborated with, which one has helped you the most? Which one would you consider the most creative one? Who would you like to work with?
Bou: Out of everyone I have collaborated with, I think Hedex has helped me the most in terms of social media and tricks on FL Studio, the program that I use. As well as Serum, he has helped me a lot in my career. And I’m not sure who I’d like to work with! Most of the people I’d like to work with, I have already done, so…
WS: ¿Has oído algo sobre la escena drum and bass en España o los artistas españoles de drum and bass?
Bou: La única vez que he venido a España fue para Innovation, y fue espectacular, aparte de la noche en Cosmos. El público de Sevilla fue increíble y hay un gran equipo trabajando tras ello.
WS: Have you heard anything about the Spanish drum and bass scene or about Spanish drum and bass artists?
Bou: The only times I’ve come to Spain was for Innovation, and it was wicked, apart from the night in Cosmos. The Seville crew was amazing and there’s a great team working behind it.
