Un lunes más en Wololo Sound os presentamos una nueva entrevista. En este caso, vamos a hablar con una de las DJ’s residentes de la marca de moda en la escena electrónica actualmente. Estamos hablando de elrow y efectivamente, de Tini Gessler, una de las promesas del techno nacional que ya ha sido apoyada por artistas como Jamie Jones, Paco Osuna o Joseph Capriati, entre muchos otros. Sin más dilación, os dejamos con la entrevista que le hemos hecho a Tini Gessler.
Wololo Sound: Primero de todo, vamos a presentarte un poco para quien no te conozca lo suficiente: ¿Quién es Tini Gessler y cómo entró en la escena de la música electrónica?
Tini Gessler: Primero de todo gracias por la entrevista. Llevo trabajando en el mundo de la noche muchos años, aunque los primeros fueron en un sector distintos al del DJ, mi interés por la música electrónica siempre la he llevado dentro, pero nunca pude imaginar que algún día llegaría a trabajar como Dj y menos poder vivir de ello. Fue hace 8 años cuando despertó mi pasión, toqué b2b con el DJ del local en el que trabajaba, y desde aquella sesión nunca mas paré de trabajar en mis sesiones, en evolucionar mi estilo musical y empecé con la producción, con la que he ido avanzando año tras año.
Wololo Sound: First of all, let’s introduce you for those ones who don’t know who you are. Who is Tini Gessler and how did she enter in the electronic music scene?
Tini Gessler: First of all, thank you so much for the interview. I’ve been working in nightlife for a long time, although my first years were in a different realm that has nothing to do with the DJ world, my interest for electronic music has always been there, but I never could imagine that someday I would work as a DJ and also make a living of it. It was eight years ago when I found out my passion, I played a back to back set with the DJ of the club I was working at that time and, since then, I have never stopped working in my sets, in evolving my musical style and then I started with musical production, which I have been progressing year after year.

WS: Hablemos un poco de tus raíces. Vienes de Alemania aunque resides en nuestro país, ¿cómo es la escena allí? ¿Tuviste complicaciones en el inicio de tu carrera? ¿Tuviste que salir de tu país para ganarte la vida como DJ/productora?
TG: Nací en un pequeño pueblo en el sur de Alemania. Me mudé con mi familia a España cuando era una niña, por lo que empece mi carrera de DJ cuando ya estaba en el país… Mi primer set en Alemania fue en septiembre del año pasado y la verdad que desde entonces ya no he parado de actuar por la zona, tan solo en este verano me esperan unos 5 shows allí, creo que será un mercado importante para mi en los próximos años.
WS: Let’s talk about your roots. You come from Germany even though you live in our country, how is the scene there? Did you have any difficulties at the begging of your DJ carreer? Were you ‘forced’ to leave your home country in order to make a living as a DJ/producer?
TG: I was born in a small town in the south of Germany. I moved with my family to Spain when I was a kid, so I started my DJ career when I already was in the country… My first set in Germany was in September last year and to tell the truth, since then, I haven’t stopped performing in the area, this summer I’ve got about five shows there, I think it will be such an important market for me in the upcoming years.
WS: A nivel musical, ¿Cuáles han sido tus influencias?
TG: Mis influencias han ido variando a lo largo de los años, empecé mis primeras sesiones basándome en un estilo deep underground melódico, más tarde me incliné por el estilo house y después por el tech house y el techno. Me di cuenta que mi estilo ronda entre todas ellas, sin encasillarme en un solo género, disfruto mezclando los sonidos que creo más adecuados para el momento.
WS: Which have been your musical influences?
TG: My influences have been varying along the years, I started my first sets basing myself in a deep underground genre and afterwards, for tech house and techno. I realized that my style round between them all, without classifying me into a single genre, I enjoy mixing those sounds I think are suitable for the moment.
WS: ¿Cómo te definirías a ti misma y a tu estilo en cabina?
TG: Creo que soy una persona muy abierta, aceptando diferentes tipos de música y cambios. Como ya expliqué en el apartado anterior, no me encasillo en un solo estilo, me gusta jugar con diferentes sonidos ya sea más oscuro y contundente o más fresco y melódico.
WS: How would you describe yourself and your style in the booth?
TG: I believe I am an open-minded person, accepting different types of music and changes. As I said in the previous question, I do not focus in one style, I love playing with different sounds, not caring about if they’re dark, powerful or fresh enough and melodic.
WS: Eres una de las artistas residentes en elrow, una casa a la que suponemos le debes mucho: ¿Cómo comenzó la relación con la emblemática fiesta? ¿Qué nos puedes contar desde qué empezaste a pinchar en sus eventos?
TG: Si, por supuesto tengo mucho que agradecer a la familia Arnau por dejarme formar parte de la familia de elrow y ayudarme a crecer tanto profesional como personalmente. Empecé a tocar en el escenario KER, la marca ‘underground’ de elrow, es un area que se encuentra dentro del mismo elrow club en Viladecans, con una linea musical mas ‘cool and fresh’. Después de 2 años me pasaron a la terraza principal de elrow y me incluyeron en los diferentes tours que tenemos por todo el mundo.
WS: You are one of the resident artists in elrow, a home that we suppose you owe a lot: How did start the relationship with the emblematic party? What can you tell us since you started playing in their events?
TG: Yes, of course I owe a lot to the Arnau family for letting me be part of elrow family and helping me growing a lot in professional and personal terms. I started playing in the KER stage, the ‘underground’ label from elrow, it is an area that is located inside elrow club in Viladecans, with a musical line ‘cool and fresh’. Two years later, they placed me at the main terrace of elrow and included me on their different tours that we have around the globe.
WS: ¿Qué visión tienes acerca de la creciente presencia de dj’s en una escena electrónica en la que mayoritariamente hasta hace unos cuantos años era formada por hombres? ¿Qué crees que se está haciendo bien y qué se ha de mejorar para contribuir a una escena igualitaria entre mujeres y hombres?
TG: Es verdad que hace unos años la escena musical era mayoritariamente basada en hombres, aunque siempre hubo grandes nombres femeninos, tales como Monica Kruse, tINI, Heidi y muchas más. Actualmente se está convirtiendo en un mundo más proporcional entre hombres y mujeres. La tendencia de artistas femeninas cada vez aumenta más, vemos cada vez más nombres de mujeres en carteles de grandes festivales. Creo que las chicas se están haciendo por fin un hueco en la industria.
WS: Which is your view about the growing presence of dj’s in an electronic scene in which mostly (until a few years ago) it was formed by men? What do you think is doing well and what needs to be improved to contribute to an equal scene between women and men?
TG: It is true that a few years ago the music scene was mostly based on men, although there were always great female names, such as Monica Kruse, tINI, Heidi and many more. It is currently becoming a more proportional world between men and women. The trend of female artists is increasing every time, we see more and more women’s names on posters of big festivals. I think the girls are finally making a hole in the industry.
WS: Sin duda el tech house está ahora mismo en un punto de inflexión y crecimiento que los más puristas underground lo ven como algo mainstream. ¿Cuál es tu punto de vista acerca de ello?
TG: Creo que hay muchos tipos de tech house, por ejemplo, el tech house que toca Jamie Jones, Marco Carola o Matthias Tanzmann no creo que sea para nada mainstream. También existe el tech house underground y de calidad.
WS: Without a doubt, tech house is right now at a point of inflection and growth that the underground purists see as something mainstream. What is your point of view about it?
TG: I think there are many types of ‘tech house’, for example, the ‘tech house’ played by Jamie Jones, Marco Carola or Matthias Tanzmann I do not think it’s mainstream at all. There is also a great quality underground tech house.
WS: Acerca de tu faceta como productora: tienes temas firmados por Cr2 Records, Lapsus Music o Great Stuff Recordings. ¿Qué elementos no pueden faltar en una producción de Tini Gessler?
TG: Me gusta usar melodías y PADs atmosféricos que generen un entorno hipnótico en mis temas.
WS: About your facet as a producer: you have records signed on Cr2 Records, Lapsus Music or Great Stuff Recordings. What elements can not be missing in a Tini Gessler production?
TG: I like using melodies and atmospheric PADs that generate a hypnotic environment in my records.
WS: ¿Qué objetivos o metas tienes ahora mismo en mente?
TG: Seguir concentrada y haciendo las cosas como las estoy haciendo ahora , con humildad y trabajando duro los resultados irán llegando sin duda, ahora estoy muy centrada en el estudio y en preparar muy bien las sesiones y creo que por ahí voy bien.
WS: What goals do you have in mind right now?
TG: Keep focused and doing things the way I am doing now, with humility and hard work the results will arrive without a doubt, now I am very focused on the studio and preparing the sets very well and I think that I am doing well.
WS: ¿Qué proyectos musicales tiene Tini Gessler en un futuro cercano? ¿Cómo va a transcurrir este año 2019? Shows, lanzamientos…
TG: Tengo varios nuevos trabajos que verán la luz próximamente en sellos importantes, pero solo puedo adelantar el primero: saldrá el 17 de mayo en uno de mis sellos favoritos, Viva Music. Poco después, saldrá un EP que he hecho junto a Toni Varga y otro mas que estoy acabando, pero aún no puedo revelar los sellos. Refiriéndome a los shows de este año, la verdad que muy emocionada por empezar la temporada de verano, se vienen grandes festivales y shows por diferentes partes del mundo. Así que con muchas ganas de arrancar ya.
WS: What musical projects does Tini Gessler have in the near future? How is it going to be this year 2019 in terms of shows or releases…?
TG: I have several new projects that will see the light soon in important labels, but I’m afraid I can only preview the first one: it will be released on May 17 on one of my favorite labels, Viva Music. Shortly after, there will be an EP that I made together with Toni Varga and another one that I’m finishing, but I still can not reveal the labels. Referring to this year’s shows, the truth is that I am very excited to start the summer season, there are great festivals and shows in different parts of the world. So, with much desire to start already.
