WS: Hi again Estie! It’s a pleasure to have you here again. In this interview we want to get to know you a little bit more. You have been active for more than four years, how did you start in electronic music? What made you think that music was your passion and that you wanted to commit your life to it?

E: I have been a music fan since I was a kid. I always wondered how musicians made those sounds, what software they used… And I started searching on the Internet and looking up tutorials to learn. As I was learning, I released my first official track on Spotify on the label Future House Cloud. Since that moment I knew I wanted to be a musician at least for a long time, seeing that I could get some income and that people loved what I did.

WS: We must highlight that your recent releases present a very professional and fine sound. How has your learning progress been? What advice would you give to someone who wants to start producing?

E:
My learning process has been completely self-taught, hours of hours of producing until improving my sound and learning from mistakes. If I had to give a piece of advice to someone who is thinking about starting to produce music it would be to learn to handle the DAW perfectly, so that the production process flows as much as possible. Once you get that, focus on the genre you love the most and squeeze it to the maximum. This will give you the confidence you need to produce different genres and to learn as fast as possible.

WS: You are an artist that bets on house and its different sub-genres, having many tracks closer to tech, deep and others to tropical. If you look back in time, how has Estie changed sinced he released that ‘Bubbles / Caelus’ EP?

E: At first I always produced future house and future bounce, it was very trendy. But as I developed myself in production, I saw deep and pop were my thing, and that translated into the figures. My future house tracks were rarely signed and had very little plays. When I started releasing deep house and pop, the plays went off the roof and I realised I had to follow that path.

WS: This 2021 you have brought us no less than seven premieres, a notable amount of releases taking into account such a weird year. How?

E: This year I commited myself to release one track per month, and I tghink I’m keeping it up pretty well. Last year I managed to get four million plays on Spotify in a year, and the only way to outdo myself was to surpass that number. Releasing at least one track per month looked like something viable to me, and I already got five million plays this year.

WS: As we said before, without a doubt the thing that characterises you the most is the house sound in its different styles. Who are the artists that have influenced you the most at the time of creating music?

E:
Without a doubt the artists that have influenced me the most have been Oliver Heldens, Kygo and Avicii. In 2015 I was obsessed with Oliver Heldens and his deep house, and at the time of producing, melodies like Kygo’s or Avicii’s inspired me. I could say my music is kind of a mix of these three artists.

¿Qué podemos esperar si vamos a verte pinchar?

WS: We want to know you are on the decks, how would you define an Estie performance? What can we expect if we see you play?

E: At the time of DJing, I am quite energetic, mixing typical reggaeton tracks that are a sure bet in Spanish venues alongside banging tech-house or EDM drops. I think a good mix of these genres on the dancefloor works, at least in Spain. I also own some reggaeton remixes edited to tech-house (you can check them on my YouTube channel) that work like a charm in clubs.

WS: You currently have more than 150,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Do you think it’s important to aim to a more international rather than national audience in electronic music in order to get these figures and therefore having a more successful profile?

E: It’s clear that electronic music is not cutting-edge in Spain, that’s why most of my listeners are international, but I also think there’s a huge amount of talent in the EDM scene that can bring a lot to the table in the future. I think there are very few labels in Spain currently that promote electronic music, therefore most EDM Spanish artists sign with foreign labels from Sweden, the Netherlands or Germany.

WS: You recently said that your next premieres will aim at different genres. Have you got out of your comfort zone? What made you make this decision?

E: Yes, as I keep on producing deep house, I am getting a taste of acoustic pop. I have two tracks pending to be released that are more “chill” alongside artists like Billy Reekie (contestant of Little Mix UK) and Able Faces. Guitar pop is looking interesting to me, and I think that collaborating with singers from this genre I can manage to get very special tracks.

WS: To finish up, we would like to know your opinion on the current scene. Where do you think house is heading in its mainstream aspect? What are going to be the next trends?

E: I think tech-house is rising right now. Artists like David Guetta are already starting to release this genre. The amount of artists I see betting on this style is getting bigger, and I think it still has a long way to go. Labels that only signed EDM or future house are now releasing tech-house and/or creating sublabels to sign the tracks, adapting to the artists.
