Si hay un artista que desde el año pasado ha ocupado todos los focos de la música electrónica a nivel mundial, ese es ACRAZE. Como bien sabéis durante verano no solemos subir entrevistas ya que muchos de vosotros y vosotras estáis de desconexión y de vacaciones, pero no podemos esperar a mostraros una entrevista de este calibre. Gracias a su hit ‘Do It To It’, el cual todos y cada uno de nosotros hemos escuchado, el artista norteamericano ha conseguido irrumpir en la escena pinchando en los mejores clubs y festivales del planeta.
Esta semana le tendremos en nuestro país, más concretamente en Ultra Costa del Sol, donde disfrutaremos de su show y probablemente de su próximo tema ‘Miracle’, el cual nos deja caer que no tardará mucho en ver la luz. Hablamos con Charlie de cómo está yendo su primer tour mundial, su pasión por la moda y por supuesto qué significó ‘Do It To It’ para él. Wololo Sound: ¡Hola Charlie! Es un auténtico placer tener en Wololo Sound al creador del que sin duda fue el track de 2021, así que bienvenido y gracias por pasarte por Wololo Sound. Empecemos como no puede ser de otra manera con ‘Do It To It’. Más de 8 billones de reproducciones y un tema que ha conquistado todo el mundo: ¿Aún a día de hoy cuesta asimilar el impacto mundial que ha tenido tu canción?
Acraze: Siendo sincero, todavía no me he acostumbrado y no sé si lo haré algún día. Es una bendición poder hacer lo que me gusta y compartirlo con tanta gente por todo el mundo.
Wololo Sound: Hi Charlie! It’s a real pleasure to have the creator of what was undoubtedly the track of 2021 in Wololo Sound, so welcome and thanks for being here! Let’s start, of course, with ‘Do It To It’. More than 8 billion plays and a track that has conquered the whole world: Is it still hard to assimilate the worldwide impact that your song has had?
Acraze: To be honest, I still haven’t gotten used to it and I don’t know if I ever will. It’s a blessing to be able to do what I love and share this moment with so many people all across the world.
WS: ‘Do It To It’ ha sido apoyada por los mejores DJ del planeta y remezclada por referencias en sus géneros como Tiësto, Sub Focus, Habstrakt o Subtronics. ¿Qué elemento crees que tiene ‘Do It To It’ que ha convertido al tema en lo que es a día de hoy?
A: Creo que la sencillez del tema y la nostalgia le dieron lo que necesitaba para convertirse en lo que es hoy. Quería hacer de ‘Do It To It’ algo que cualquiera pudiera disfrutar, sin importar el género que escuchen.
WS: ‘Do It To It’ has been supported by the best DJs in the world and remixed by masters in their genres such as Tiësto, Sub Focus, Habstrakt or Subtronics. What do you think has made ‘Do It To It’ become what it is today?
A: I think the simplicity of the track and the nostalgia really gave it what it needed to become what it is today. I wanted to make ‘Do It To It’ something that anyone can enjoy, no matter what genre they listen to.

WS: ¿Crees que este tipo de hits mundiales se dan solo una vez en la vida o es posible repetir el éxito?
A: Creo que todo es posible con una mentalidad sana y motivadora. Es posible que no sea fácil, pero creo que podría repetir el mismo éxito en el futuro.
WS: Do you think this kind of worldwide hit is a once in a lifetime or is it possible to repeat the success?
A: I think anything is possible with a healthy and driven mindset. It may not be easy but I believe I can repeat the same success in the future.
WS: Recientemente has firmado con Capitol Records en colaboración con el sello Thrive Music, que lleva a artistas de la talla de Moore Kismet, Nervo o LP Giobbi. ¿Qué esperas de un paso tan importante en tu carrera?
A: Tener un equipo de personas que me han apoyado desde el principio siempre ha sido uno de mis objetivos. Me emociona el hecho de colaborar con Capitol y Thrive para hacer realidad mi visión. Estar en dos sellos tan influyentes es increíblemente inspirador; tengo muchas ganas de revelaros lo que se viene.
WS: You have recently signed to Capitol Records in collaboration with Thrive Music, which involves artists such as Moore Kismet, Nervo and LP Giobbi. What do you expect from such an important step in your career?
A: Having a team of people who have supported me from the beginning has always been a goal of mine. I’m excited to collaborate with Capitol and Thrive to bring my vision to reality. Being backed by two influential labels is incredibly inspiring; I can’t wait to reveal what’s in store for you guys.
WS: Además, este es el primer gran verano en el que puedes hacer un tour mundial tras la pandemia. Te hemos visto en Sensation Amsterdam, el show de DJ Snake en París, A Summer Story, Nameless Music Festival o Ushuaïa Ibiza. ¿Qué se siente al vivir una gira europa tan intensa por primera vez? ¿Cómo se prepara un artista para pasar de 0 a 100 en tan poco tiempo?
A: ¡Increíble! Tengo el honor de poder vivir la experiencia en Europa y toda la cultura que ofrece. Aunque es agotador. He hecho 6 sets en 6 países diferentes en 7 días; a veces dos sesiones en un día. No encontraba el sueño por ninguna parte, jaja. Pero en cuanto a la preparación, no hay manera de prepararse realmente. Simplemente hago lo que hay que hacer y sigo adelante.
WS: Also, this is the first big summer where you can do a world tour after the pandemic. We’ve seen you at Sensation Amsterdam, DJ Snake’s show in Paris, A Summer Story, Nameless or Ushuaïa Ibiza. How does it feel to experience such an intense European tour for the first time? How does an artist prepare to go from 0 to 100 in such a short time?
A: Amazing! I’m blessed to be able to experience Europe and all the culture it has to offer. It is exhausting though. I’ve done 6 sets in 6 different countries in 7 days; occasionally two sets in one day. Sleep was nowhere to be found haha. But as far as preparation, there’s no way to truly prepare for it. I just accomplish what needs to be done and keep moving forward.
WS: Varios de tus platos fueetes este verano son Tomorrowland y Ultra. Actuarás en Ultra Europe y también en Ultra Costa del Sol, el evento que se celebra en nuestro país. ¿Cómo afrontas estos shows tan importantes? ¿Qué puedes esperar del evento del 20 de agosto en Málaga?
A: He soñado con pinchar en estos festivales y todavía no puedo creer que por fin haya llegado aquí. Es estresante pero a pesar de todo, siempre me enfrento a estos eventos siendo yo mismo. Creo que la gente tiende a actuar de forma diferente para tratar de impresionar a todo el mundo cuando se trata de grandes festivales; yo soy todo lo contrario y trato de ser lo más auténtico posible. Espero una gran fiesta en Málaga jaja. ¡Estoy emocionado por pinchar por fin allí!
WS: Some of your highlights this summer are Tomorrowland and Ultra. You will be performing at Ultra Europe and also at Ultra Costa del Sol, which takes place in our country. How do you face these important shows? What are you expecting from the event on August 20th in Malaga?
A: I’ve dreamed of performing at these festivals and I still can’t believe I’m finally here. It’s nerve-wracking for sure but regardless, I always face these events by showing up as myself. I think people tend to act differently trying to impress everyone when it comes to major festivals; I’m the complete opposite and try to be as authentic as possible. I expect a major party at Malaga haha I’m excited to finally play there!
WS: Sin duda con tus gafas y tu vestimenta, eres uno de los DJ que más apuestan por la moda del circuito, llegando incluso a ser vestido por Dolce & Gabbana para el EDC Las Vegas. ¿Qué vínculo dirías que tiene la moda con la música electrónica?
A: Esto vuelve a tener que ver con mi autenticidad. En general, no creo que haya necesariamente un claro vínculo con esas marcas y el EDM. Pero, personalmente, siempre me ha gustado la creatividad de la alta costura y la sensación que me produce llevarla, por muy diferentes que sean las piezas de la ropa normal.
WS: No doubt that with your glasses and your clothes, you are one of the most fashionable DJs on the scene, even being dressed by Dolce & Gabbana for EDC Las Vegas. What would you say is the link between fashion and electronic music?
A: This goes back to my authenticity. In general, I don’t think there’s necessarily a clear link between those brands and EDM. But I’ve personally always been in love with the creativity that comes from high fashion and the feeling I get wearing it no matter how different the pieces are from regular clothing.
WS: Ahora que estás en todos los focos, es algo que has aprovechado para dar apoyo a muchos temas que te gustan pero no son tan conocidos, por ejemplo ‘Selecta’ de Crusy. ¿Te gusta descubrir nuevos bangers para hacer tus shows diferentes?
A: ¡100%! Me encanta apoyar a los artistas emergentes, sobre todo si el tema es un bombazo. Cuando te gusta tanto la música, quieres compartir tu gusto por los temas tanto como sea posible, sin importar quién haya hecho la canción. He apoyado a muchos artistas y seguiré haciéndolo porque me da mucho juego y la oportunidad de hacer de cada set una nueva experiencia.
WS: Now that you’re in the spotlight, you’ve taken advantage of it to support a lot of tracks you like but which aren’t very well known, for example Crusy’s ‘Selecta’. Do you like to discover new bangers to make your shows different?
A: 100%! I love supporting up-and-coming artists especially if the track is a banger. When you love music, you want to share your taste of tracks as much as possible no matter who made the track. I’ve supported so many artists and will continue to do so because it gives me a lot to play with and a chance to make every set a new experience.
WS: ‘Do It To It’ va a cumplir casi un año y estamos ansiosos por ver más música de ACRAZE después de este éxito mundial. ¿Nos puedes desvelar alguna sorpresa que estés preparando?
A: No puedo decir mucho, ¡pero debéis saber que habrá un nuevo tema de ACRAZE antes del final del verano!
WS: ‘Do It To It’ is almost a year old and we can’t wait to see more music from ACRAZE after this worldwide success. Can you hint any surprises you are preparing?
A: Can’t say much but just know there will be a new ACRAZE track out before the end of the summer!
