Uno de los pioneros dentro del future house como es Brooks, que se ha labrado un nombre dentro de la escena EDM con un repertorio de temas y remixes muy variado; y que ha llamado la atención de los grandes de la escena. Brooks ha logrado destacar y trabajar con Showtek, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Mike Williams o Bassjackers y ganar un reconocimiento cada vez mayor con su innovador estilo de electro house rítmico. Y no ha pasado desapercibido para nosotros. ¡Después de lanzar su colaboración ‘Like I Do’ junto a Garrix y Guetta, el holandés nos concede una entrevista que aquí os dejamos!
WS: El Brooks que conocimos hace unos años, tenía un camino muy distinto al de ahora, más cercano al big room. Pero tu estilo ahora es diferente, ¿cuándo decidiste dar ese paso?
Brooks – Escuchaba mucho Big Room en aquel entonces (como la mayoría de nosotros), pero comenzaba a surgir el future house y también me encantó.
Sentía que ya se había hecho todo dentro del big room, pero también me daba la sensación de que el future house era demasiado suave para mí, ¡así que intenté combinar las dos! Me centré en aprovechar el ambiente de Future House, y luego darle más caña como en todos los temas de electro de hace un par de años.
Brooks we met a few years ago, had a very different style than now, closer to the Big Room. But your style is different now, when you decided to take that step to move forward?
I listened to a lot of Big Room back then (like most of us did), but I also loved the ‘future house’ that was just starting to come up.
I felt like everything had already been done in Big Room, but I also felt like Future House was a bit too soft for me personally, so I just tried to combine the two! I focused on harnessing the Future House vibe, and then hardening it up like all those electro tracks from a couple years back.
WS: Muchos de nosotros te hemos visto crecer de la mano de Showtek, ¿como es tu relación con ellos ahora? ¿Seguís en contacto?
Brooks: ¡La relación sigue siendo buena! Estamos trabajando en el mismo estudio en Holanda, así que cuando terminan los veo mucho.
Many of us have seen you growing up with Showtek, how is your relationship with them now? Are you still in contact?
The relationship is still good! We’re working in the same studios in Netherlands, so when they’re over I’m seeing them a lot.
WS: Ahora, Martin Garrix es uno de tus máximos valedores, ¿cómo se trabaja con Martin?
Brooks: Es una experiencia increíble trabajar con un amigo. Admiro la atención que Garrix pone en los detalles y él trabaja casi tan duro como yo, ¡así que hacemos un gran equipo!
Now, Martin Garrix is one of your best defenders, how is working with Martin?
It’s such an awesome experience to work with a friend. I admire Garrix’s attention to detail and he works almost as hard as I do so we make a great team!
WS: Junto a Martin y Guetta habéis creado el éxito ‘Like I Do’ como fue el proceso de creación, ya habíais hablado algo antes?
Brooks: David nos envio a Martin y a mí una idea que le rondaba la cabeza, ¡y a ambos nos encantó! A partir de entonces, los tres trabajamos en él mientras hacíamos Facetime, cada uno de nosotros agregando nuestro propio toque hasta que la primera versión quedo completa. Probamos ‘Like I Do’ en nuestros shows en vivo, y Guetta lo estrenó en su gira mundial. ¡Y justo después de eso, la versión final estaba lista!
Together with Martin and Guetta you have created the hit ‘Like I Do’, how the creation process was?, Did you ever speak anything about a collab together 3?
David sent this idea he had lying around to Martin and me, and we both loved it! From then on, the three of us worked on it while Facetiming, each of us adding our own flare until the first version was finished. We tested ‘Like I Do’ in our live shows, and Guetta premiered it on his global arena tour. And right after that, the final version was ready for release!
WS: ¿Podrías escoger 3-4 temas imprescindibles en tus sets? Aunque no sean tuyos
Brooks: Realmente me gustan los temas que FHM (Future House Music) está lanzando, y realmente me gustan los de bitbird.

WS: Brooks ha crecido mucho en 2017, recorriéndose el mundo de festival en festival y de sala en sala, que esperas de este 2018? Has estado en Ibiza, España antes, pero has estado en algun sitio más a parte de Ibiza y Barcelona?
Brooks: Espero que 2018 sea aún más grande y que pincharé en España mucho más. Ibiza seguramente es el lugar para estar, los dj’s más grandes tienen sus propias residencias allí, y es una isla muy buena. Me encanta.
Estaré pinchando en Ibiza este año, incluso unas pocas veces más que el año pasado. Después de nuestro lanzamiento ‘Like I Do’, David Guetta me invitó a pinchar en sus fiestas también.
Brooks has grown a lot in 2017, going through the world from festivals and shows, what do you expect for this 2018? You’ve been at Ushuaia, Ibiza and now in Barcelona, any place of Spain you’ve been or you wanted to visit?
I hope that 2018 will be even bigger, and that I’ll be playing in Spain much more. Ibiza surely is the place to be – the biggest dj’s have their own residencies over there – and it’s a very cool island. I love it.
I’ll be playing ibiza this year even a few more times than I did last year. After our release ‘Like I Do’ , David Guetta invited me to play at his parties too.
WS: Que nos espera a los fans en estos próximos meses? ¿alguna exclusiva que nos puedas soltar?
Brooks: Tengo algunos grandes shows y algunos tracks aún más grandes en preparación, ¡así que mejor miren este espacio!
