Wololo Sound entrevista a L.U.X tras el lanzamiento de su EP ‘Death Grip’ en Never Say Die: Black Label
Con motivo de su lanzamiento en Never Say Die: Black Label, Wololo Sound entrevista a L.U.X, uno de los productores de deathstep más aclamados de los últimos años y que presentó hace menos de un mes su primer EP en el mejor sello de dubstep del momento.
WS: Hola L.U.X, es un placer tenerte aquí. Para empezar, tenemos que preguntarte sobre tu primer EP en NSD: Black Label. ¿Cómo ha sido el proceso de creación de ‘Death Grip’?
L.U.X: El proceso para crear este EP ha sido bastante arduo, y me ha llevado bastante tiempo. Tuve que asegurarme de que todos los temas encajaran y funcionaran juntos. El proceso total me llevó unos seis meses. ¡Estoy muy feliz con el resultado! 🙂
WS: Hello L.U.X, it’s really nice to have you here. First of all, we have to ask you about your first NSD: Black Label EP. How has been the process to create ‘Death Grip’?
L.U.X: The process of creating this EP has been quite hard, and very time consuming. I had to make sure that all of the tracks worked together and made sense. Overall it took me six months to get it done. I’m happy with the outcome! 🙂
WS: Dentro del dubstep tu estilo es muy particular, ya que tanto tú como artistas como Code: Pandorum o Graphyt érais considerados absolutamente underground hasta hace poco. ¿Dé dónde viene tu sonido? ¿Cuáles son tus inspiraciones?
L.U.X: Cuando empecé este proyecto (como algunos sabréis), empecé con una mezcla muy particular de metal y dubstep que alguna gente llamaría “deathstep”. Estoy muy influenciado del metal, bandas como Animals As Leaders, Periphery y Meshugga me ayudaron a crear y dar forma al sonido que oís hoy en día de mí.
WS: Inside dubstep, your style is very particular, as you and artists like Code:Pandorum or Graphyt were considered absolute underground sound until a few time ago. Where does your sound come from? What are your inspirations?
L.U.X: When I first started this project (as some of you might know), I started with a very particular infusion of both metal and dubstep that people some would call “deathstep”. I’m heavily influenced by metal, bands like Animals As Leaders, Periphery, and Meshugga helped me shape and create the sound you hear from me today.
WS: ¿Cómo describirías tu estilo en cuatro o cinco palabras?
L.U.X: Música dura, underground y pistera.
WS: How would you describe your style in four or five words?
L.U.X: Heavy, underground, dancefloor music.
WS: Tu tema ‘In Cold Blood’ es un buen ejemplo del sonido de L.U.X. ¿Imaginaste así este tema desde el principio o tuvo detrás un largo proceso de producción?
L.U.X: ‘In Cold Blood’ era y es aún uno de mis temas favoritos. El proceso de producción no me llevó mucho, fui muy seguro de mí mismo sobre cómo sonaba y me encantaba la dirección que estaba tomando… Seguramente tomaré esa misma dirección de nuevo en 2019.
WS: Your track ‘In Cold Blood’ is a very good example of the L.U.X sound. Did you imagine this track like that from the beginning or did it have a long production process behind it?
L.U.X:‘In Cold Blood’ was and still is one of my personal favourite tunes. The production process didn’t take me much time, I felt very confident about how it sounded and I loved the direction I was taking… I will surely take that direction again in 2019.
WS: ¿Cómo ves la escena mundial de dubstep y la división de subgéneros dentro de esta escena?
L.U.X: La escena está prosperando ahora mismo, hay espectáculos increíbles con line-ups increíbles entodo el mundo. Es una locura pensar que la gente creía que estaba muerto, cuando ahora está incluso mejor que nunca. Hay varios subgéneros avanzando ahora mismo, ¡y me encanta! La evolución musical es extremadamente importante porque hace que suba el listón y las producciones sigan mejorando.
WS: How do you see the worldwide dubstep scene and the division of dubstep genreswithin the scene?
L.U.X: The scene is thriving right now, there are amazing shows with incredible line-ups everywhere around the globe. It’s crazy to think that some people think it died out, when actually it’s doing almost better than ever. There are multiple sub-genres going on and I absolutely love it! Musical evolution is immensely important because the bar keeps rising and the productions just keep getting so much better.
WS: ¿Cuáles han sido tus lanzamientos y artistas favoritos de dubstep en 2018?
L.U.X: No tengo un tema favorito en mente ahora mismo porque ha habido tantos temas increíbles… Pero en lo que a artistas se refiere, hay algunos que para mí han destacado bastante. Artistas como Mastadon, Samplifire, Algo, Hekler, Diskirz y Digitist, que lo han partido en 2018 con temas increíbles. Hay también artistas muy prometedores en auge. Es un gran momento. ¡Me emociona el futuro!
WS: Which have been your favourite dubstep releases and artists in 2018?
L.U.X:I don’t have a favourite song in mind because there have been so many amazing tunes, but as for artists, there have been some in particular that have stood out for me the most. Artists such as Mastadon, Samplifire, Algo, Hekler, Diskirz and Digitist, who have been crushing 2018 with amazing tunes! There are also many promising artists coming up – big time. I’m excited about the future!
WS: En ‘Death Grip’ se incluye una colaboración con Samplifire. Has colaborado con artistas como Code:Pandorum, Diskirz, MurDa o Lord Swan3x. ¿Con qué productores te encantaría colaborar?
L.U.X: Me encanta colaborar con amigos, más incluso que con artistas con los que apenas hablo. La comunicación es clave a la hora de producir y siento que las cosas fluyen mejor con aquellos con los que hablo más a menudo. Dicho esto, voy a colaborar con varios buenos amigos el año que viene 😉
WS: In ‘Death Grip’ a collaboration with Samplifire is featured. You have collaborated with artists such as Code: Pandorum, Diskirz, MurDa or LordSwan3x. Which producers would you love to collaborate with?
L.U.X: I love collaborating with friends more than artists I don’t usually talk to. Communication is key when creating a tune and I feel like things flow better with those I talk to a lot. That being said, I’m going to collab with some good friends this upcoming year. 😉
WS: ¿En qué dirección crees que irá tu sonido?
L.U.X: Mi sonido seguirá evolucionando porque así es cómo debe ser la música. ¡Debería continuar evolucionando una y otra vez! Los patrones y los sonidos y estructuras genéricos son muy irritantes y aburridos. Continuaré experimentando y creando los mejores sonidos y la música más original que pueda.
WS: In what direction do you think you sound will keep on going?
L.U.X: My sound will keep evolving because that’s how music should be. It should continue on evolving and evolving! Patterns and generic sounds/structures are annoying and boring. I will continue experimenting and creating the best and most unique music I can make.
WS: ¿Has oído hablar de la escena de bass music en nuestro país, España?
L.U.X: No he oído nada de la escena de bass music en España, ¡pero me encantaría descubrirla en 2019! ¡Sería la leche pinchar para vosotros!
WS: Have you ever heard about the bass music scene in our country, Spain?
L.U.X: I have not heard of the bass music scene in Spain, but I would like to find outin 2019!!! 🙂 It would be so cool to come play for you guys!!!

- Ciudad favorita para vivir: Solía vivir en Los Angeles y ahora vivo en Israel. Así que Los Angeles.
- Festival favorito para actuar: No he pinchado en ningún festival aún, pero Skins en Montreal es una fiesta anual que sería increíble.
- Mejor artista para pinchar en B2B: Ya no hago B2B, ¡pero solía pinchar con Mits! Me encanta pinchar con él, siempre es un buen rato.
- Mejor artista con el que meterte en el estudio: Me encanta trabajar con Samplifire. Ambos nos entendemos muy bien en lo que a música se refiere.
- Canción favorita de todos los tiempos: ¡‘Points Of Authority’ de Linkin Park!

- Favourite city to live: I used to live in LA and now I live in Israel. So I’ll say LA.
- Favourite festival to play: I haven’t played any festivals, but Skins in Montreal is a yearly party that’s absolutely amazing.

- Best artist to get in the studio with: I love working with Samplifire. We both understand each other fairly well in terms of music.
