Si te decimos que es una de las DJs femeninas más conocidas y queridas en la actualidad en la escena hard, especialmente dentro del rawstyle, que tiene una relación muy cercana con sus fans y es la reina de los kick-rolls… sabes de quién estamos hablando, ¿verdad? Efectivamente, nos referimos a Mish.
La DJ australiana ha sabido combinar a la perfección su energía y buen rollo con el saber hacer dentro de la industria musical. Si quieres conocerla un poco mejor, hemos tenido el placer de hacerle algunas preguntas… ¡Ella es Mish!
Wololo Sound – ¡Hola Michelle! Muchas gracias por permitirnos tener esta entrevista contigo, ¡es todo un placer! Lo primero de todo es preguntarte, ¿cómo estás? ¿En qué momento creativo te encuentras ahora mismo antes de que comience la temporada de festivales?
Mish – Estoy muy bien gracias, bastante ocupada con actuaciones y tratando de adaptarme ya que este es mi primer año completo incluyendo numerosos festivales. También intento producir nueva música, mantenerme activa en las redes sociales, etc. Quiero tener nuevos edits y temas para mis sets en solitario, así como para los futuros sets de Rave Love.
Wololo Sound – Hi Michelle! Thank you very much for this interview, it’s a pleasure! Firstly I would like to ask you, how are you? What creative moment are you in right now before the festival season starts?
Mish – I’m doing great thanks, just very busy with performances and trying to adjust to having more shows as this is my first full year including a lot of festivals. Also trying to prepare new music and keep on top of social media, etc. I’m wanting to have some new edits and bangers for my solo sets as well as any future Rave Love sets as well!
WS – Tu trayectoria profesional hasta la actualidad ha sido muy buena. Empezaste a mezclar en 2016, a hacer disfrutar al público con tus primeros sets en 2019… Actualmente todo buen seguidor del rawstyle te conoce. ¿Ha sido difícil el camino hasta la actualidad? ¿Cómo es ser una mujer DJ en la escena hard?
M– Por supuesto que cualquier camino es difícil. He tenido la suerte de trabajar junto a algunos de los mejores DJs de la escena y contar con su orientación, así que estoy muy agradecida por ello. Pero, por supuesto, también trabajo duro para asegurarme de ofrecer actuaciones entretenidas en todo momento y de estar activa en mis redes sociales. Además, durante la época Covid stremeaba en Twitch y hacía todo lo posible para que mi nombre creciera. Afortunadamente, después de la pandemia pude actuar con más frecuencia, lo que me ayudado mucho en mi carrera. También era yo la que organizaba mis propias contrataciones hasta que me uní a Most Wanted DJ Agency en 2022.
Ser una mujer DJ siempre es difícil porque la gente te critica más y juzga casi todo lo que publicas en las redes. Aunque soy sincera con mi publico y ¡creo que eso es lo importante! Por supuesto, ser una mujer DJ también tiene sus ventajas y hoy en día puedo ser una de las pocas chicas presentes en un line up y es una sensación muy gratificante, ¡sobre todo siendo una de las pocas DJs de Australia!
WS- Your professional career until now has been very good. You started mixing in 2016, with the public enjoying with your first set in 2019… Has the road to the current day been difficult? How is it to be a female DJ in the hard scene?
M– Of course any journey is difficult. I’ve been luckily enough to work alongside some of the best in the scene and have their guidance so i’m very grateful for that. But of course I also work hard to ensure i’m providing entertaining performances each time and being active on my social media. Also, during Covid I was streaming on Twitch and doing my best to grow my name. Thankfully after Covid I was able to perform more often which really helped with my career. I was also organising my own bookings up until I joined Most Wanted DJ Agency in 2022.
Being a female DJ is always hard because people will criticise you more and judge almost anything you post online. Although i’m honest with people and I think that’s important! Of course being a female DJ also has advantages and nowadays I’m able to be one of the few girls on a line up and it’s a very rewarding feeling especially being one of the few DJs from Australia too!
WS – Los cambios siempre son complicados. Cuando te mudaste de Australia para vivir en Holanda, ¿cuáles fueron las principales dificultades que encontraste? ¿Te supuso un choque cultural? ¿Qué es lo que más echas de menos de tu país de origen?
M– Es difícil mudarse a un país diferente en el que no tienes amigos, no hablas el idioma y básicamente, tienes que descubrirlo todo por ti misma, en comparación con lo qué acostumbras en tu país es complicado. La diferencia cultural entre Australia y los Países Bajos es grande, así que 6 años después sigo intentando adaptarme a ciertas cosas. Tomé la decisión de mudarme aquí por mi carrera, pero soy una persona que realmente necesita sol y playa. Por supuesto, he hecho muchos amigos aquí y sin duda es mejor para mí vivir en Holanda por el momento, pero mentiría si dijera que no echo de menos Australia… Echo de menos a mis padres, el clima, la comida, las playas, la vida salvaje, el paisaje… ¡básicamente todo, para ser sincera!
WS- Change is always hard, when you moved from Australia to live in Netherlands, what were the main challenges? Was it a culture shock? What do you miss most about your home country?
M– It’s incredibly difficult moving to a different country where I didn’t really have any friends, not speaking the language and basically having to figure out everything for yourself compared to what you’re used to in your own country. The culture difference between Australia and The Netherlands is big so I’m still trying to adjust to it 6 years later. I made the decision to move here for my career but I’m someone who really needs sun and beaches. Of course i’ve made a lot of friends here and it’s definitely better for me to live in Holland for the time being, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss Australia. I miss my parents, the weather, the food, the beaches, the wildlife, the scenery…basically everything to be honest!
WS- Hace poco tiempo salió ‘Time to Shine’ (en colaboración con Krowdexx) llegando a los primeros puestos en algunas de las listas musicales más importantes dentro de la escena/musica hard. ¿Cómo te sientes? ¿Te esperabas esta gran acogida del tema? ¿Cómo fue su producción junto con Krowdexx? ¡Cuéntamos por favor!
M– Todos estábamos muy contentos de haber alcanzado el primer puesto en febrero. Por supuesto, cuando haces un tema siempre quieres que salga bien, ¡fue una sensación maravillosa! Trabajar con Krowdexx fue agradable y ¡tienen un gran ritmo de trabajo!
WS- Not long ago “Time To Shine” (in a collaboration with Krowdexx) reached Number #1 on the Hardstyle Charts. How do you feel? Did you expect this result? What is it like working with Krowdexx? Tell us please!
M– We were all very happy about reaching the 1st Spot for February, of course when making a track you always want it to go well so it was a great feeling! Working with Krowdexx was nice and they have a great workflow!
WS- Has estado en algunos de los principales festivales internacionales (Defqon.1, Decibel outdoor, Elektrum Festival…) y en la próxima festival season vas a estar presente en muchos más (¡entre ellos en el Blue stage en Defqon.1!) ¿De qué festival tienes mejores recuerdos? ¿Cuál esperas con más ganas en el futuro?
M– Creo que el domingo a las 11 de la mañana en Defqon.1 en el escenario Indigo es uno de mis mejores recuerdos. Fue mi primera actuación en un festival al aire libre en los Países Bajos y ver a toda esa gente correr dentro para llenar el escenario en 5 minutos fue una experiencia realmente loca. Por supuesto, Decibel outdoor también fue una experiencia increíble, con el escenario a rebosar y la gente teniendo apretarse allí. Mi B2B con Warface en Rebirth este año fue increíble. Llevo mucho tiempo admirando a Youri, así que me sentí muy honrado deacompartir escenario con él. Tuve un set hace poco en Midnight Mafia, en Australia, para 22.000 personas, que fue mi escenario más grande hasta la fecha. Pero, para ser sincera, podría decir algo increíble de cada una de mis actuaciones en festivales.
En cuanto a los eventos futuros, no podría elegir el que más me apetece, ¡porque todos me hacen mucha ilusión! Por supuesto, estar en Defqon.1 en el escenario Blue es un gran logro y pinchar en Parookaville y Tomorrowand junto a los nombres más importantes de la escena EDM también lo es.
WS- You’ve played at festivals like Defqon.1, Decibel Outdoor, Rebirth Festival, Elektrum festival… In the next festival season you will be present in many (among them is the blue stage at Defqon.1!) Which festivals do you have the best memories? Which one are you most looking forward to the future?
M– I think that 11am Sunday Morning at Defqon.1 on the Indigo stage will go down as one of my best memories. It was my first performance at an outdoor festival in The Netherlands and seeing all those people run inside to pack out the stage within 5 minutes was really crazy to experience. Of course Decibel was also an amazing experience with the stage overflowing and people really had to squish in. Also my B2B with Warface at Rebirth this year was amazing. I’ve looked up to Youri for a long time so I really felt honoured to share the stage with him! I recently also played at Midnight Mafia in Australia for 22k people which was my biggest stage yet – going back home to perform was such an awesome experience. But honestly I could say something amazing for each of my festival performances.
For the future events I couldn’t really pick out something i’m most looking forward to because i’m really excited for them all! Of course being on Defqon Blue is a huge accomplishment and playing at Parookaville and Tomorrowand alongside the biggest names in the EDM scene is also a crazy feeling!
WS- Estamos seguros de que a lo largo de toda tu carrera musical has vivido buenos momentos. ¿Qué sueños te quedan por cumplir?
M– Me encantaría tocar en Estados Unidos, especialmente en EDC. Tengo que decir que está en el top de mi lista de deseos. Este año ya he conseguido marcar algunos festivales enormes en mi agenda, así que mi objetivo es seguir creciendo y ¡seguir consiguiendo contrataciones de ese calibre! También me encanta tocar en países nuevos, pero siempre quiero volver a los lugares en los que ya he estado.
WS- Along your career, you have lived so many good times. What are some dreams for your career that you are yet to accomplish?
M– I would really love to play in America – especially EDC. I’d have to say that’s on the top of my bucket list! Already this year I’ve managed to tick off some huge festivals in my agenda so my goal is to just continue to grow and keep getting such awesome bookings! I also love playing in new countries but always want to return to places I’ve already been as well.
WS- Imagina que pudieras organizar tu propio festival. ¿Qué elementos consideras imprescindibles para que un festival tenga éxito?
M– En cuanto a la parte artística del festival, creo que lo más importante es contar con un buen equipo de sonido, pantallas LED para los visuales, un buen sistema de iluminación/láser, un equipo de DJ bueno, monitores de cabina para el DJ que funcionen correctamente, un buen MC y un cartel variado (en el que esté yo, ¡por supuesto!).
WS- Imagine you can create your own festival. What elements would you consider essential for a successful festival?
M– For the artist side for the festival I think the most important parts are a really good sound system, LED screens for the visuals, good lighting/laser show, working DJ equipment, working booth monitors for the DJ, a good MC and good varied line up (with me on the line up of course!)
WS- Estuviste por primera vez en España el pasado año 2022, en la discoteca Fabrik. ¿Cómo te sentiste? ¿Qué tal la experiencia con el público español? ¿Te gustaría volver pronto a nuestro país?
M– El público estuvo increíble, cantando al ritmo de las melodías, y el ambiente en general fue perfecto. ¡Me encantaría volver a España!
WS- You were for the first time in Spain last year, at Fabrik nightclub. How did you feel? How was the experience with the Spanish crowd? Would you like to come back soon to our country?
M– The crowd was really amazing – singing along to the melodies and tracks and the general atmosphere was perfect. I would 100% love to come back to Spain!
WS- Si algo te caracteriza como artista, es la energía que transmites al público en cada uno de tus sets, ¡eres la reina de los kick-rolls! Además, siempre has tenido una relación muy próxima con todos tus fans haciendo streamings y hablando de todo tipo de temas con ellos. ¿Quieres mandarles algún mensaje desde aquí?
M– Mis fans son la parte más importante de mi carrera y nunca podría hacer lo que hago si no fuera por ellos. Cada set mío que disfrutan, cada vez que hacen streaming de mis temas, cada historia que publican de mí o de mi música, cada comentario que escriben en mis posts o post que comparten… estoy realmente agradecida con cada uno de ellos. Así que sólo quiero darles las gracias y ¡decirles que les quiero!
WS- If something characterizes you as an artist, it is the energy you share to the public in each of your sets, you are the queen of kick-rolls! Besides, you’ve always had a very close relationship with all your fans, streaming and talking about all kinds of topics with them. Do you want to send them a message from here?
M– My fans are the most important part of my career and I would never be able to do what I do if it wasn’t for them! Every set of mine they visit, everytime they stream my tracks, every story they post of me or my music, every comment they write on my posts or post they share… I’m grateful for each and every one. So I just wanna thank them and say i love you!
WS- Nuevo lanzamiento, nuevo merch, nuevos festivales a la vista… Antes de terminar esta entrevista, ¿podrías darnos alguna pista sobre qué es lo nuevo de Mish que viene próximamente?
M– ¡Estoy ocupada en el estudio con Sickmode para trabajar en temas nuevos! Tanto en solitario como colaboraciones para Rave Love. Pronto lanzaré nuevo merch que incluirá algunas novedades de cara a la temporada de festivales. También empezaré algunas colaboraciones con otros artistas y ¡voy a llevar conmigo banderas de Mish para repartir en algunos de los eventos más grandes! así que… ¡aseguraos de estar disfrutando en uno de mis sets!
WS- New release, new merch, new festivals in sight… Before ending this interview, could you give us some hints about what’s coming soon from Mish?
M– I’m busy in the studio with Sickmode to work on new tracks! Both solo and collabs for Rave Love, I’ll also be doing another merch drop soon which will include some new items in time for festival season! Soon I’ll also start some collabs with other artists as well 🙂 I’ll have a Mish flag to hand out at some of the bigger events as well so make sure you’re coming to one of my sets!
