En la nueva entrevista de Wololo Sound, os presentamos a un productor que ha irrumpido en la escena electrónica norteamericana en poco tiempo, y sobre el que muchos de los más grandes ya se han fijado. Con releases en Monstercat y Armada, dos actuaciones en UMF Miami, y el continuo support de Deadmau5, Notaker nos habla de muchas de estas cosas, además de por supuesto su último EP, ‘Genesis’. ¿Le conocemos un poco más?
Wololo Sound – En primer lugar David, muchas gracias por atender a nuestro medio y a todos nuestros seguidores en España. Vamos a comenzar preguntándote precisamente por nuestro país, donde no has actuado nunca… ¿Lo has visitado? ¿Conoces algún festival o sala de nuestro país, donde te gustaría actuar próximamente?
Notaker – ¡Gracias por contar conmigo para una entrevista! Nunca he tenido la oportunidad de visitar España antes pero por supuesto que me encantaría ir. He oído hablar de los clubs legendarios que hay en Ibiza como Space, que creo que ahora se llama Hï, y Amnesia. Sería increíble poder actuar en algunas de esas emblemáticas salas de la isla.
Wololo Sound – First of all, David, thank you so much for paying attention to our blog and the spanish followers. We are going to start asking you concretely about our country, where you’ve never made a show. Have you visited it? Do you know any festival or club from here where you’d like to play?
Notaker – Thank you for having me for an interview! I’ve never had the chance to visit Spain before but of course would love to come. I’ve heard about the legendary clubs in Ibiza like Space, which is now Hï I believe, and Amnesia. It would be amazing to get to play any of those iconic venues on the island.
Wololo Sound – Hemos leído que dos de tus referentes son Eric Prydz y Deadmau5. ¿Que es lo que más te gusta de cada uno de ellos, y que es lo que más te inspira de su música? Más difícil aún, ¿con que tema te quedarías de cada uno de ellos?
Notaker – Algo que siempre me ha inspirado de estos tíos es la manera en la que son capaces de capturar emociones increíbles en su música y cómo han participado en casi todo lo que involucra su música. Mi tema favorito de deadmau5 sería ‘I Remember’ por los buenos recuerdos que me trae esa canción. En cuanto a mi favorita de Eric Prydz sería un tema de Pryda llamado ‘The End’, simplemente una canción épica que podría escuchar una y otra vez.
Wololo Sound – We’ve read that Eric Prydz and deadmau5 are your biggest inspirations. Could you tell us what do you like the most about both of them and what inspires you from their music? And, a tricky question now, which of their tracks are your favorites?
Notaker – Something that has always inspired me about these guys is the way they are able to capture amazing emotions in their music and how they have a hand in almost everything that involves their music. My favorite track from deadmau5 would have to be ‘I Remember’ because of the great memories I have of that song. My favorite for Eric Prydz would have to be a Pryda track from him called ‘The End’ which is just an epic song I could listen to endlessly.
Wololo Sound – De hecho hace unos meses publicabas ‘Abyss’, tu debut en MAU5TRAP. ¿Como fue el momento en el que supiste que Joel (deadmau5) estaba interesado en tu música? ¿Es el sello donde más ilusión te ha hecho publicar?
Notaker – Fue un momento bastante surrealista para mí el tener a alguien a quien he idolatrado siempre reconociendo y apreciando mi trabajo y queriendo lanzarlo en su sello. Siempre ha sido un sello del que he querido ser parte. Considero que es un gran honor trabajar con mau5trap.
Wololo Sound – In fact, some months ago you released ‘Abyss’, your debut track on mau5trap. How did you feel when you knew that Joel was interested in your music? Was it you dream label?
Notaker – It was quite a surreal moment for me having someone I’ve idolized for so long recognized and appreciate my work and want to release it on their label. It was always a label I’d longed to be a part of for sure. I consider it a great honor to get to work with mau5trap
Wololo Sound – Sin embargo, si hablamos de Notaker hablamos de Monstercat, donde has publicado tu nuevo EP (del que ahora hablaremos). ¿Como es la ‘familia Monstercat‘? ¿Volveremos a verte en el label en 2018, o crees que es un ciclo que ya ha terminado?
Notaker – ¡Monstercat es increíble! El equipo del sello es muy apasionado con la música que lanzan y siempre han estado ahí para ayudarme como artista. Y sí, lanzaré más música con ellos en 2018, por lo que podría decir que Monstercat es mi casa musical.
Wololo Sound – Nevertheless, if we talk about Notaker, we talk about Monstercat, where you’ve released your last EP (of which we’ll be taking about on the next question). How is the Monstercat family? Will we see you there again in 2018 or is it an ended cycle?
Notaker – Monstercat is amazing! The team over there at the label is really passionate about the music they sign and have always been there to help me along as an artist. Yes, I will be releasing more music with them in 2018, Monstercat is my musical home I’d say.
Wololo Sound – Hablemos ahora de ‘Genesis EP’. Las criticas han sido estupendas y a nosotros nos encanta. ¿Como fue el proceso de producción de este EP?
Notaker – ¡El proceso de producción fue divertido! Recopilé un puñado de canciones que había producido a lo largo de un año, las puse a punto y las organicé en lo que hoy es ‘The Genesis EP’. Fue una experiencia muy gratificante recoger todo esto y hacer una colección musical que muestre tan bien mi sonido.
Wololo Sound – Let’s get into ‘Genesis’ EP. The reviews about it have been amazing and we really love it. How was the produccion process?
Notaker – The production process was fun! I collected a bunch of songs I had produced over the span of about a year, fine tuned them, and organized them into what is now The Genesis EP. It was a very rewarding experience to get to bring all of this together and make a collection of music that showcases my sound so well.
Wololo Sound – En ‘Genesis EP’, y en tu carrera en general, has tocado diferentes géneros y estilos. ¿Como ha sido esta evolución? ¿En que género encasillarías tu música actual?
Notaker – Creo que es mi gusto musical propio tan amplio y el interés en diferentes sonidos lo que me inspira con naturalidad a producir nuevos estilos y géneros. Nunca he sentido que “debería” componer en ningún género o estilo, para mí todo trata de lo que te inspira y te emociona en ese momento. Ahora mismo pondría una gran etiqueta de “Electrónica” en mi música.
Wololo Sound – Both in this EP and your entire career, you’ve worked with different genres and styles. How was this evolution? In which musical genre will you say that you are working at this moment?
Notaker – I think it’s my own broad taste in music and interest in different sounds that naturally inspires me to produce in new styles and genres. I never feel like I “should” write in any style or genre, to me it’s all about what’s inspiring and exciting me at the moment. Currently I’d just put a big general stamp of “Electronic” on my music.
Wololo Sound – Tras mau5trap, Monstercat, Zerothree, Armada… ¿Cuál es el siguiente paso? ¿Alguna exclusiva que nos puedas dar de cara a 2018?
Notaker – Tengo planeado otro sello de ensueño para mí pero tampoco quiero decir cuál es. También tengo pensado firmar nueva música con esos sellos que has mencionado en la pregunta.
Wololo Sound – After releasing on mau5trap, Monstercat, Zerothree or Armada, which is the next step? Is there any exclusive you can give us according to 2018?
Notaker – I have plans to go for another dream label of mine but I really don’t want to say what label it is. I also plan on signing more music with some of these labels here in your question too.
Wololo Sound – ¿Contemplas la posibilidad de lanzar un álbum completo a corto/medio plazo?
Notaker – Mi próximo gran proyecto va a ser el segundo EP para la serie ‘The Vessel’ que estoy haciendo, siendo la primera parte ‘Genesis’, por supuesto.
Wololo Sound – Are you planning to make a full album in short/medium term?
Notaker – My next big project is going to be the second EP for ‘The Vessel’ series that I’m doing, the first being Genesis of course.
